Why do companies wait for a resignation to value their employees?

Why does it take a resignation letter for things to suddenly become “possible”? I’ve never quite understood the magic wand moment that happens when someone hands in their notice. For months (or even years), a person might be asking for more support, growth, flexibility, recognition, or a fair salary, only to be told “not right now.” The minute they resign, suddenly: 🤔 There’s a pay rise 🤔 A promotion appears 🤔 Promises of change are made overnight Why does it have to get to that point? By the time someone has made the difficult decision to move on, the trust is already broken. A counteroffer might fix the short-term problem, but it rarely addresses the reasons they started looking elsewhere in the first place. If we truly value our people, the conversation shouldn’t start at the resignation letter. It should start long before through listening, recognition, and proactive career conversations. Let’s stop waiting for a resignation to value someone’s worth.

Much needed conversation today and it never gets old! Chay Walbeoff Just like we do interview style documentaries of incarcerated criminals, we should do one for those companies/managers who try this ‘trick’ when their employee chooses to finally move one! Lol
