Counterpoint Global Media’s Post

Valuable reflections from the Brandwatch Marketing Bootcamp. It’s important for strategic communications professionals to keep pace with how narratives evolve and how they can be used to shape, question, or destabilise trust. Great to see our team attending and sharing key takeaways from the day.👏

Last week, I had the opportunity to attend the Brandwatch Marketing Bootcamp in London, and it was such an insightful day. Big thanks to Sophie Chambers for the invite. One of the standout sessions was Narrative Intelligence for Brand Resilience with Roberta D. (BLACKBIRD.AI). A particularly interesting point was how some narratives don’t target directly, but instead aim to erode trust more broadly. One example focused on the pet food industry, where content questioned the safety of pet food, but the real intention appeared to be creating doubt around science as a whole, using pet nutrition as a way to challenge public trust in the scientific field. The Disinformation Dilemma panel featuring Gemma Joyce, Marcus Beard, Dmytro Bilash, Anna Osborn, and Jamie Bulman was another highlight. The discussion explored how dis/misinformation spreads, what it means for companies, and how to shift from reactive to proactive strategies in dealing with it. A great event with relevant topics, smart speakers and useful takeaways. #bwLDN

One other fascinating point from the event was around echo chambers - how people are gravitating to platforms and groups that reinforce their existing beliefs, and even challenging AI tools like Grok until they get the answers they want to hear. It highlights that we're not just combating misinformation, but also our own cognitive biases that prioritise confirmation over truth. Essential learning for strategic communications professionals.
