Data governance is the pathway to responsible data management and sharing. Strong data management systems at the institutional levels are key pillars in the journey to achieving continental goals of responsible data sharing for the advancement of research and the evidence-informed policy-making process. Last week, the APHRC's Data Governance Team in collaboration with the Research and Related Capacity Strengthening (RRCS), Virtual Learning Academy, and the ICT Department, co-facilitated a four-day workshop on Best Practices in Data Governance and Management. The workshop engaged data staff, researchers, and operations teams to co-create a roadmap towards an APHRC Data Management Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). Key focus areas included: ✅ Standardization of research tools ✅ Data quality management, documentation & metadata ✅ Privacy, protection & ethics ✅ Storage, archiving & access ✅ Continuous capacity building through the Virtual Learning Academy This collaborative effort marks an important step toward strengthening our data systems, ensuring transparency, and advancing evidence generation across Africa. #DataGovernance #DataCite #EvidenceMatters #APHRCResearch #CapacityBuilding #WeAreAfrica African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) Christine Ger Damazo Kadengye Agnes Kiragga Bonface Ingumba Nelson Mbaya Paul Odero Dr. Benard Ondiek, Ph.D DataCite David P.
