💧 Can being dehydrated influence how your body reacts to stress? New research conducted by experts at Danone Research & Innovation and Liverpool John Moores University suggests it just might! In a recent study, 32 healthy adults were grouped based on their habitual fluid intake and then underwent the Trier Social Stress Test. While participants showed similar heart rates and self-reported anxiety levels, those with signs of dehydration — like darker urine — had amplified stress hormone responses. According to Juliane Z., our Senior Scientific Affairs Manager: “This suggests that staying well-hydrated could be a simple yet effective way to help your body regulate stress hormones more efficiently”. The study is the first study to demonstrate that habitual low fluid intake may heighten cortisol reactivity to stress, potentially explaining its link to long-term health risks such as cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.
