september always feels like a fresh start. so it felt right to kick things off with a techTO event! what i love about these events is that you always meet people working on really interesting stuff. from a founder building one-click marketing for SMEs to an engineer working at rolls royce. the conversations are never boring. one of the things that stuck with me was a framework one of the founders shared on stage. 5 simple questions he asks himself to stay on track: 1. do i believe i can win? 2. is what i’m working on impossible to do? 3. is there a step forward i can take to get ahead? 4. can i control the next step? 5. how do i get started? i’m a big frameworks/systems guy, so i like have something to fall back on in those moments when the brain starts spiraling. so all in all, a solid night. the best part of these events is the people, so thanks #techTO for bringing together 500 cool people all under one roof. my only complaint is that there isn't enough time to talk to everyone 😂

I’ve tasted a wide spectrum of environs — government(ish) at ISRO, corporate with consulting, and now a startup with Airbound. Each of them has been such a distinct experience, with very little skill overlap. The hats to wear are completely different. Every move has been a real leap of faith — led by ambition, by FOMO, by curiosity, by self-belief and, to a large extent, by “why not.” It’s been ~6 months here — by far my most exciting and riskiest decision — but the quantum of experience gained has been exceptional. I now measure the true merit of a job as the return on time invested (ROTI). There are times when you spend 16+ hours a day but ROTI = 0, because you remain as intellectually underfed as the day before. Here, we thrive on solving super hard problems, and as an initiation technique (not necessarily by design), anyone who joins is thrown into the deep end. By the time they swim up, they already know: the hustle never ends, and it’s addictive to solve one hard problem after another. A few observations from my time here so far: > Hardest problem to solve = hiring the right person. People can make or break things. 100 technically good hires (based on CVs, interviews, etc.) <<< 1 technically good hire with the right attitude and enthusiasm. > The joy of cracking a hard problem is unmatched. (Pet peeve: people calling themselves “problem solvers” when all they do is manipulate numbers or ask LLMs for the most generic answers ever.) Breadth is useful, but you can’t truly solve a problem without depth. > Hardware is criminally underrated, under-promoted, and under-appreciated. Navigating the complexities of manufacturing — especially with niche materials like composites — and learning from global engineering behemoths has shown me where true value generation happens. > Keeping an org/people motivated is half the problem solved. The rest is just directing the flow toward the right problems. > No individual ever has enough bandwidth for the sheer magnitude of open problems piling up daily. Trust in teammates is invaluable and inevitable. Prioritize ruthlessly and delegate, delegate, delegate. > Documentation and process > everything. > Never believed in R&D sprints.
