Delighted to welcome Sonia Teruel founder The RegenLAB for Travel to our Regenerative Tourism Masterclass at Munster Technological University this week as part of our MA in Regenerative Tourism. Focusing on a living systems approach, Sonia shared her passion for place and nature with our students, reminding us that developing a sense of purpose and a collective sense of what is meaningful, what is important and what must be sustained is key to a thriving tourism destination. Honored to see our research contributing to the global academic conversation on tourism resilience. My collaborative book chapter, "Post-disaster Tourism: Building Resilient and Sustainable Communities", co-authored with Dr. Gina B. Alcoriza of the UP Asian Institute of Tourism, has been cited in the peer-reviewed Geojournal of Tourism and Geosites. This recognition for our work on post-disaster recovery frameworks underscores the critical need for actionable strategies that help destinations build back stronger and more sustainably. It is gratifying to see our proposed model being used in international scholarly discourse. I have shared more details about this milestone in a new article on my website. You can read it here: https://lnkd.in/gKEShc_2 #ResearchImpact #Citation #PostDisasterTourism #SustainableTourism #CommunityResilience #Academia #TourismManagement #ScholarlyPublishing

I am fascinated by how some cities considered “secondary” are becoming protagonists in global tourism. Cities such as Ghent, Bologna, Popayán, and Fukuoka are demonstrating that tourism growth is not measured solely by fame, but by the quality of the experience, authenticity, and positive impact on their communities. Understanding this trend is key for tourism, investment, and cultural development professionals seeking sustainable alternatives and genuine experiences. Read my article to explore how these off-the-radar cities are reshaping the tourism map: https://lnkd.in/eZREYXzi #SustainableTourism #CulturalTourism #EmergingCities #SlowTravel #AuthenticExperiences #LocalDevelopment

Thrilled to share our third publication! Our latest paper, “Synergy of Fun Walk and Culinary Tourism in UNPAD Tourism Fest 2024: A Sustainable Tourism Perspective,” explores how community-based events can promote both healthy lifestyles and local economic empowerment through sustainable tourism practices. This research highlights the importance of integrating recreation, cultural experience, and sustainability in tourism events — creating meaningful impacts for both participants and local communities. Grateful to my co-authors, mentors, and everyone involved in UNPAD Tourism Fest 2024 who inspired this study. #SustainableTourism #CommunityEmpowerment #CulinaryTourism #AcademicResearch #Unpad

From a simple walk to a powerful tourism strategy At the UNPAD Tourism Fest 2024, we asked a bold question: What if a fun walk could do more than promote health? Our study (Sinta 3, published May 25, 2025) shows that combining fun walks + culinary tourism is a winning formula: > More visitors stayed longer at the bazaar > Tour guides turned a walk into a cultural journey > Local MSMEs gained real economic impact Sometimes, sustainable tourism doesn’t need grand infrastructure—it starts with creative event design that blends health, culture, and food. And as we approach World Tourism Day, September 27, let’s celebrate tourism as a force for well-being, culture, and community sustainability. Next month we're publishing "Otherness, Othering and Space in Tourism Futures" edited by Lucia Tomassini. The book examines the concepts of otherness and othering in tourism, investigating how human and non-human actors are perceived within tourism spaces. It challenges traditional views, emphasising relationality and justice, and integrates future studies and theories to explore emerging trends, critical reflections and future scenarios for tourism. To get a taste of what taste of what to expect, you can download the book's Foreword and Introduction free here: https://buff.ly/44gtWG1
