Starting Next Monday, October 6th, the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) will be holding it’s annual International Conference in Toronto. This year’s theme, “From the Ground Up: Tall Buildings and City-Making”, explores how urban development must integrate material and social initiatives to create cities that serve all inhabitants. The event emphasizes that meaningful city-making is about more than tall buildings, it is about nurturing the networks of people, institutions, and communities that shape a city’s identity. As part of the program, MTA Partners Phil Silverstein and Carol Phillips are joining the “Learning from Limberlost: Mass Timber Techniques” workshop hosted by the Canadian Wood Council, alongside Steven Street, Nerys Rau, Krista Palen, Mike Love, Pierre Koch, M.Eng., P.Eng., and Steven Craft. Limberlost Place will be a central case study, highlighting how sustainable materials and innovative design strategies can inspire the future of tall timber construction. #LimberlostPlace #ctbuh2025 #MassTimber #GeorgeBrownCollege #TorontoWaterfront #SustainableArchitecture #LowCarbonDesign #NetZeroCarbon #TorontoGreenStandard #TimberInnovation #CanadianArchitecture #MoriyamaTeshimaArchitects #ActonOstryArchitects #DesigningForCommunity #ArchitecturalLandmarks #FutureOfArchitecture #TorontoArchitecture #TorontoTallTimber

Cities can, and should, play a leading role in tackling the urban and climate challenges of our time. At a recent WRLDCTY panel, DIALOG Chair Antonio Gomez-Palacio emphasized that while the challenges we face are global, the solutions must be local – designed by and for the people, and shaped by the unique context of each place. Joined by Chris Fair (Resonance) and Sofia Song (Gensler), the panel addressed narratives around ‘model cities’ and highlighted places that are leading the way in inclusive, regenerative, and next-generation urbanism. #DIALOG #WRLDCTY #architecture #communitywellbeing #placesforpeople #urbandesign #conference #panel #thoughtleadership

🏙️ Urbanism as a Strategic Foundation for Private Developments In private real estate projects, urbanism is often underestimated — yet it plays a decisive role in long-term value creation. A well-designed urban strategy ensures functional connectivity, accessibility, and environmental balance, directly influencing user experience and economic performance. Integrating urban planning principles — such as walkability, mixed-use zoning, and sustainable infrastructure — transforms isolated buildings into vibrant, resilient communities. Successful private developments are not only profitable; they are urban catalysts that enhance the quality of life and strengthen the city’s fabric. #UrbanPlanning #RealEstateDevelopment #SustainableDesign #Architecture #UrbanDesign #CityPlanning
