Working together for a strong European industry    On October 23, the European Council will decide on the future of European industry. In a cross-border alliance with 78 industrial companies – together representing about 500,000 employees just in Europe – we are calling for an extension of CO2 allowances today.    If free CO₂ allowances for industrial companies are not extended as currently planned, Europe could face severe economic and environmental disadvantages.    voestalpine alone currently pays around EUR 200 million annually for CO₂ allowances into the budget of the Republic of Austria, while spending 1,5 billion in decarbonization projects. Increasing needs for CO₂ allowances would negatively affect our competitiveness as well as result in a setback for the greentec steel transformation projects.    Our demand is therefore clear: we need reliable framework conditions so that industry and climate protection can succeed together.    #IndustryAlliance #FutureOfIndustry #greentecsteel 

🌍 Steel industry: at the heart of European transformation The European steel industry is at a crossroads. In a context marked by the energy transition, digitalization and circular economy, steel is redefining itself as a strategic pillar for the continent's industrial autonomy and sustainability. The European Commission has launched the Steel and Metals Action Plan, a roadmap that recognizes the essential role of our sector in promoting a secure energy supply, decarbonization, the circularity of materials and the protection of industrial employment. Last week, Brussels took a further step by announcing concrete measures to protect the industry from unfair competition and global overcapacity. These include reducing tariff-free imports, increasing the tariff from 25% to 50% for imports exceeding the tariff-free quota, promoting cleaner and more efficient technologies that reduce emissions in manufacturing processes, and strengthening the European value chain through measures to strengthen steel production and processing within the EU, including traceability of product origin through the "Melt and Pour" principle. 🌏 China-ASEAN Steel Cooperation Moves Forward: CISA Vice Chairman Tang Zujun Leads Delegation to Malaysia 🇨🇳🤝🇲🇾 On September 30, 2025, the 2nd China-ASEAN Steel Technology Exchange Conference was successfully held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, co-hosted by the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) and the ASEAN Iron and Steel Council. CISA Vice Chairman Mr. Tang Zujun and ASEAN Iron and Steel Council Secretary-General Mr. Yeoh Wee Jin delivered opening remarks on behalf of the organizers. 💬 In his speech, Mr. Tang extended warm greetings to ASEAN partners committed to green and smart transformation, noting that “China and ASEAN are linked by geography, culture, and economy — and the completion of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area 3.0 negotiations marks a new phase for bilateral steel industry cooperation.” He emphasized that future collaboration should focus on deepening green and low-carbon cooperation, embracing intelligent manufacturing, and enhancing innovation and coordination mechanisms. Mr. Yeoh introduced the current development of the ASEAN steel industry and the region’s green policy framework, expressing admiration for China’s achievements in low-carbon transformation and his hope to strengthen industrial chain cooperation with China. Over 150 delegates from Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan, Brazil, and other regions attended the event. ASEAN participants highly praised the technical presentations and expressed strong interest in introducing and localizing Chinese steel technologies in ASEAN countries. Prior to the event, the ASEAN Steel Forum was held on September 29 under the theme “Sustainable Steel and Green Buildings.” Mr. Tang delivered a keynote titled “China’s Exploration and Practice of Green and Low-Carbon Steel Development,” outlining China’s steel industry’s progress toward the 2030 carbon peak and 2060 carbon neutrality goals, including ultra-low emission retrofits, extreme energy efficiency programs, and the establishment of a low-carbon metallurgy innovation platform and EPD lifecycle data system. 🏭 On September 28, the CISA delegation visited Alliance Steel (Malaysia) — a major joint venture project in Kuantan Industrial Park.
