🚨 Massive Breakthrough for Indian Researchers & Academics! 🇮🇳 For the first time ever, the Government of India will now cover the Article Processing Charges (APCs) for publishing in top-tier open-access journals under the One Nation, One Subscription (ONOS) initiative. That means — no more paying lakhs to publish in globally reputed journals. No more financial barriers for brilliant Indian research to reach the world. 🌏 Let’s break it down 👇 💡 What’s New: The new APC Guidelines (Version 1) under ONOS aim to democratize academic publishing by funding publication costs for Indian authors. 💰 What’s Covered: Full APC reimbursement for journals in the top 1% globally (based on CiteScore, SNIP, or SJR). Applies to authors from Indian universities, IITs, research labs, and national institutes. Managed through a ₹150 crore central APC fund. 📚 Why This Matters: For decades, Indian scholars have struggled with paywalls and high publication fees — often ₹1–3 lakh per paper — locking their work behind international barriers. With ONOS, research visibility, global collaboration, and citation impact could skyrocket. 🚀 🌍 What It Means for Indian Academia: Level playing field with global researchers Empowerment for early-career scholars and PhD students More Indian papers in Nature, Science, and other top-tier journals A boost to India’s knowledge economy and scientific diplomacy 🙌 This isn’t just policy — it’s a revolution for research equity. The next Nobel-worthy paper from India might no longer be delayed by funding issues. 🔗 Useful Links: APC Guidelines – https://lnkd.in/epvaskYQ APC Help Manual – https://lnkd.in/eiTTai-H Selected Journal List – https://lnkd.in/ey8TKjX6 ACM Digital Library Agreement – https://lnkd.in/ekrjpYjf ONOS Portal – https://onos.gov.in 💬 Researchers, PhDs, postdocs — what’s your take? 📢 News on Editor’s Café! India’s open access (OA) publishing landscape is evolving fast! Kaushik Bharati, PhD, MIDSA (USA), FRSPH (London), highlights how funder mandates, national repositories, and Diamond OA journals, together with a growing preprint culture, are transforming how research is shared and discovered. Initiatives like Shodhganga, which now hosts over 600,000 theses, and One Nation, One Subscription (ONOS) are expanding access across higher education and research institutions. Despite challenges such as APC costs, predatory publishing, and repository inconsistencies, India continues to move toward a stronger, more sustainable Open Science ecosystem. QS Quacquarelli Symonds Asia Rankings released yesterday. In it, there is a parameter called Citations per Paper. Given the scores and ranking of universities in this parameter, it is clear that the parameter makes no sense. To be sure, theoretically, it is a good parameter as it does not reward quantity of publications. However, based on the results, one sees that it does not measure quality at all. Some of the best IITs and IISc are ranked more than 100 IN INDIA for this parameter. Research Metrics are completely broken. They are no longer reliable or useful. It is time we start measuring research in a radically different manner. Failing that, we might as well just stop measuring research like we do now, as it just misleads everyone. Link to complete data : https://lnkd.in/gfV9sHJE Data Source : QS Asia Rankings 2026 - https://lnkd.in/gk4PiyrA QS World University Rankings Hope that this is not due to some error. Please do double check as these results are highly counterintuitive in the Indian context. India will do better by not chasing these increasingly meaningless metrics and rankings. 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐒𝐮𝐛𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚’𝐬 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐩 𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 In observance of Open Access Week 2025 last week, we’re spotlighting ONOS — the Government of India’s initiative to make global research accessible to all. 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘖𝘕𝘖𝘚? ONOS (One Nation One Subscription) provides a single national license to international research journals, allowing over 6,000 higher education and R&D institutions across India to access 13,000+ journals from 30 publishers. 𝘏𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘖𝘕𝘖𝘚: 🔹 Global publishers including Wiley, Elsevier, Springer Nature, Taylor & Francis, and the American Chemical Society have partnered with ONOS, expanding access to high-impact research for institutions across India. 🔹 The scheme also includes APC (Article Processing Charge) support, so Indian researchers can publish their work in top open-access journals without personal expense. 🔹 Students and educators from tier 2 and tier 3 cities now have the same access as top-tier universities, driving equality in research and learning opportunities. 🔹 By centralizing subscriptions, ONOS is helping institutions save on costs and redirect funds toward labs, innovation, and talent development. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘶𝘭𝘵? A thriving, more connected research ecosystem where access inspires innovation. 🔗 Read our blog to explore the implications of ONOS: https://lnkd.in/gxze4Dk6 #OpenAccessWeek2025 #ONOS #OpenAccess #ScholComm #STM #Innovation #OAWeek

Great news for the academic and research community in India! The One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) scheme has officially launched its Article Publishing Charges (APC) component, enabling researchers to publish in top-tier Open Access journals with central funding. If you are a regular faculty member, student, or researcher at a government HEI or R&D institution in India, here’s what you need to know: ✅ What's Covered: APC payments for fully Open Access journals that are in the top 1% globally (based on CiteScore, SNIP, or SJR from SCOPUS). Payments are made directly to the publisher upon acceptance of your article. 👤 Who is Eligible: First or corresponding authors who are bonafide employees or students of ONOS-member institutions. You must provide a declaration of significant intellectual contribution from all co-authors. No dual funding: The article must not have APC covered by any other grant or agency. 📝 How to Apply: Register on the ONOS portal using your institutional email. Submit article details & acceptance proof. Get institutional authentication. Upload the mandatory Author Contribution Declaration. Await approval and payment processing on a first-come, first-served basis. 🎯 Key Highlights: Aims to reduce financial barriers to high-quality Open Access publishing. Promotes ethical research practices with clear contribution guidelines. Streamlines the APC payment process through a single national portal. This is a transformative step toward making Indian research more visible and accessible globally. Let’s leverage this opportunity to amplify our impact! #ONOS #OneNationOneSubscription #ResearchFunding #OpenAccess #APC #HigherEducation #IndianResearch #ScienceInIndia #AcademicTwitter #ResearchAndDevelopment #UGC #Inflibnet #researcher #India #Indiagovernment
