This week’s Sustainable Fashion Good News: 🟢 Billie Eilish is addressing the music industry’s textile waste problem by upcycling unsold tour merch - partnering with Bravado to repurpose 400’000 t-shirts in Morocco with HALLOTEX S.L. The t-shirts will be broken down and spun into new yarn to make new 100% cotton t-shirt blanks. 🟢The UK second-hand shopping market is estimated to reach £4.8 billion this year - up from £4.3 billion in 2024 according to a report from the Centre for Economics and Business Research. The second-hand market continues to rapidly grow as consumers shift away from traditional retail, making more affordable and eco-conscious purchases. 🟢Manchester Fashion Week will make its long-awaited return this September with a focus on future-proofing a fashion industry rooted in heritage and innovation. The three-day event is set to disrupt and reimagine the fashion system, transforming the former fast fashion capital into the future-forward capital. #Goodnews #SustainableFashion #EcoAge #FashionForAFuture #ManchesterFashionWeek
The Billie story only REALLY makes sense if she also commits to doing smaller runs of merch for future tours that align with demand more closely. I know a load of small businesses who print t-shirts who could turn around merch for tours on a nearly day-by-day basis. 400k shirts feels completely absurd. Anyway - I do appreciate these stories - there's a potential win for the pop stars, a win for local businesses, and a win for the environment here!
400,000 units of unsold Billie Ellish merch? That merch industry is rotten. She is fairly new to the business and already that amount of stock unsold?? That is insane! Imagine other bands like AC/DC? What is going on with their planning team at Sony?
