Second week of the Futures Lab (https://uwfutureslab.ca/), where students presented their team's initial learning tool idea, explaining what the domain subject is, why it is difficult to learn, and what their prototype does to address the learning problem. Honestly, I was floored by the range of ideas, the level of creativity, and students' willingness to work across boundaries. We had interactive prototypes from "memorization of Kanji characters" to "proper pipetting techniques for chemistry labs". Special thanks to Aaron Wade for coming all the way from NYC to University of Waterloo, to share your stories as a creative technologist and designer. Your generosity was felt by all of us. If I were to characterize the whole experience and to predict what is to come, it would be "fun" and the beginning of a wonderful learning community. Google Mira Lane Jules Walter

What an inspiring week at the Futures Lab: AI + UX Prototyping Workshop sponsored by Google and led by Prof. Edith Law at the University of Waterloo! Our students used Gemini Pro to produce AI-driven design prototypes, and the creativity on display was impressive. A huge thank you to Aaron Wade from Google’s Creative Lab team for joining us and providing thoughtful feedback on the student presentations. His insights helped bridge the gap between conceptual ideas and real-world design practices, making the experience even more valuable for everyone involved. Aaron also walked the group through the development of some of Google’s early prototypes including Career Dreamer. It’s exciting to see how these workshops are shaping the next generation of designers and technologists. Looking forward to what Week 3 brings!
