When 13-year-old Salimu was pulled from the water after nearly drowning, his oxygen levels were critically low. But at his district hospital in Tanzania, health workers trained in Essential Emergency and Critical Care (EECC) were ready. ✅ Oxygen therapy was started immediately ✅ Aspiration pneumonia was diagnosed and treated ✅ Monitoring and supportive care helped him recover This rapid, coordinated response wasn’t chance — it was the result of system-wide preparedness through the EECCiT programme, supported by UNICEF Tanzania and Global Affairs Canada’s CanGive initiative. Salimu’s story shows what’s possible when every hospital has the tools and training to respond to critical illness — turning emergencies into survivals. 👉 Read the full story: https://lnkd.in/eDwFe5Er #EECC #CriticalCare #EmergencyCare #GlobalHealth #ChildHealth #SavingLives #HealthEquity #Tanzania #UNICEF #CanGive

MSF SOUNDS ALARM ON CRITICAL MEDICAL SUPPLY SHORTAGES IN BORNO Surge in malnutrition and measles strains Maiduguri health facilities amid funding gaps. Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) urges Nigerian authorities and aid groups to urgently address severe shortages in medical supplies and staffing across Borno, especially Maiduguri. Following a sharp rise in malnutrition and measles cases, MSF nearly doubled bed capacity at Nilefa Kiji Hospital and treated over 3,200 malnourished children. However, reduced humanitarian funding and partner withdrawals have limited outpatient care. MSF works with the state ministry to support local healthcare centers, but warns that ongoing supply and logistical challenges threaten vulnerable children’s survival. #MSF #BornoHealthCrisis #Malnutrition #MeaslesOutbreak #HumanitarianAid #NigeriaHealth #HealthcareAccess #MedicalSupplies #ChildHealth #SupportBornoMSF

As part of our ongoing work to strengthen access to healthcare in rural areas, Transaid recently conducted refresher training for 131 community health volunteers in Serenje and Chitambo Districts in Zambia. The sessions focused on strengthening confidence and practical skills, including: 🔹 Identifying danger signs of severe malaria and maternal health emergencies 🔹 Using rectal artesunate (RAS) as a vital pre-referral treatment for severe malaria 🔹 Boosting volunteers’ knowledge and decision-making to save lives in their own communities Community health volunteers are often the first point of care in these remote areas, and the skills they hold can mean the difference between life and death. By equipping them with up-to-date training and tools, we’re helping more people access the right care at the right time. #accesstohealthcare #communityhealthcare #transformlives

Public health facilities lack capacity to serve all PSEMAS members A National Health Facility Assessment has revealed major gaps across Namibia’s public health system, showing that most facilities are not yet prepared to accommodate civil servants under the Public Service Employee Medical Aid Scheme (PSEMAS). The findings come after President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah directed earlier this year that, from 2026, all civil servants under PSEMAS will be limited to using public health facilities, and instructed the Ministry of Health to develop a plan to redirect usage from private to public institutions. Health Minister Dr. Esperance Luvindao said the assessment identified urgent shortcomings, including weak infection prevention and control, non-operational or inadequate medical equipment, staffing shortfalls in critical services, inconsistent supply of pharmaceuticals, and stock management weaknesses. https://lnkd.in/eNJBK__a #namibia #hospitals #publichealth #civilservants #PSEMAS #medicalaid Namibian Presidency

For years, the Sabon Gari Wushishi Primary Healthcare Centre operated without something as basic as water. Health workers fetched water from distant sources, and patients, even pregnant women — had to bring their own water. To address this, BudgIT Nigeria, through the #SCEAP project, engaged the Global Promoters for Community Initiative (GPCI), a community-based organisation, to drive community-led advocacy, sensitisation, and mobilisation efforts. As a result of these efforts, a generous and anonymous community member facilitated the installation of a borehole at the MCH Wushishi facility. The impact was immediate, bringing clean, reliable water right to the taps. Today, hygiene has improved, infection risks are down, and this has not only enhanced the quality of health service delivery but also improved maternal and child health outcomes, boosted patient confidence, and strengthened the sustainability of primary healthcare in the community. The Power of Prevention – Changing the Future of Health in Africa I still remember meeting a mother in Lagos who said to me, “If I had known earlier, I would have checked my blood pressure.” That moment changed how I saw preventive healthcare forever. Across Africa, too many lives are lost not because care doesn’t exist — but because it comes too late. Non-communicable diseases like hypertension, diabetes, and cancer are silently taking lives in their prime. These are no longer “rich world diseases” — they are our diseases too. But there’s hope. Because prevention is powerful. Simple actions as simple as: Regular screenings, Better nutrition, Physical activity, And community-led education can save thousands of lives every year. At Excel Health, we believe healthcare shouldn’t start at the hospital door. It should start in our homes, our schools, and our communities. We are working to build a culture where prevention equals empowerment. If you’re a health leader, policymaker, or advocate, let’s start investing in prevention — because the real future of African health lies not in more hospitals, but in fewer patients. #PublicHealth #AfricaHealth #PreventionIsPower #ExcelHealth #NCDs #HealthInnovation #CommunityCare

The GHS warns that children, the elderly, pregnant women, and people with chronic illnesses are most at risk, urging the public to practice good hygiene, wear masks, and seek medical care. Schools have also been directed to enforce strict flu prevention measures as health authorities intensify surveillance and public education. https://lnkd.in/gTy36pPt

🌍 From Fragility to Resilience: Transforming NCD Care in Puntland. In Galdogob, a semi-urban town in Puntland, the Somali Red Crescent Society (SRCS) and Danish Red Cross (DRC) are proving that continuity of care for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) is possible — even in fragile, crisis-affected settings. Through the Continuity in Crisis (CIC) project and NCD for Displaced Populations project , supported by the Novo Nordisk Foundation, communities once cut off from essential chronic care are now finding hope. ✅ Health workers trained in NCD management. ✅ Clinics equipped with diagnostic tools and medicines ✅ 36 volunteers reaching households with Health Literacy on NCD Prevention and Management. ✅ Peer-support groups promoting self-care for Patients and breaking stigma at community level. The result? 📈 Increased diagnosis and treatment adherence 🤝 Strengthened community engagement and ownership 💪 Renewed trust in local health systems This is more than a project — it’s a movement for resilience, where local action is driving long-term change in chronic disease care. Let’s continue to build systems that leave no one behind — even in times of crisis. #NCDs#HumanitarianHealth#ContinuityInCrisis#SomaliRedCrescent#DanishRedCross #NovoNordiskFoundation #HealthForAll #Resilience #PrimaryHealthCare
