As part of our citizen science experiment, volunteers have mixed a standardized microbial community into their local soil. The Ruse region 🇧🇬 is one of the Transformative Lab in GoDigiBios project (https://lnkd.in/dkuqBZ8d), aiming to support biodiversity-relevant transformative change towards a nature-positive governance, economy and society; use of new digital and emerging technologies to assist in reversing biodiversity loss is here crucial. On 8 October we will bring together local stakeholders, each contributing their expertise to explore and prioritise the factors shaping biodiversity, technology, and wellbeing in the region. 🌍 The Rusenski Lom Natural Park, the largest and most biodiverse area in the region, will provide valuable insights into these discussions.

📢 Scholar Research Publication Announcement Research work of Abhishek, a PhD scholar at the Department of Environmental Studies at Ashoka University, has been published in ScienceDirect. Abhishek’s recent research paper discusses bridging policy and practice gaps in the Fishing Sector in India. Nice inspiration from Lam et al. (2020) [in Ecology & Society, “Indigenous and Local Knowledge in Sustainability Transformations Research,”] analysis of how Indigenous and local knowledge (ILK) can contribute to sustainability transformations. 🔍 Their work offers a crucial reminder: despite growing recognition of ILK, scientific frameworks often remain shaped by Western epistemologies. Even when aiming for co-production, research still tends to “integrate” or “support” Indigenous knowledge — as if transformation were something to be enabled rather than already alive within these systems. 🌿 This resonates with my reflections on circular cooperation, where transformation is not an external goal but an inherent process — cyclical, relational, and regenerative. Many Indigenous philosophies embody this circularity: they are transformation, not objects of transformation. 💡 Perhaps the next step is not only to improve inclusion, but to cultivate recognition — to accompany these living knowledges, to create space for reciprocity and mutual flourishing. ✨ In my own work, I explore how circular cooperation reframes collaboration itself — not as a tool to manage change, but as a political and ethical practice that allows transformation to emerge naturally within interconnected systems. In Vienna, collaboration isn’t just encouraged – it’s how science happens. 🧪 Just ask Mark Anthony, Assistant Professor at the Universität Wien. He studies the hidden world of fungi living inside plants – not just the harmful ones, but also beneficial species that can boost plant health in surprising ways. 🍄🟫 His research explores how these fungal communities influence plant growth, reproduction and resilience – with real-world potential to strengthen forests, support ecosystem restoration and advance planetary health in the face of biodiversity loss and climate change. 🌍 When Mark started his group in Vienna, he needed seeds for an experiment. Instead of ordering them, he reached out to another local researcher at the Vienna BioCenter. A few hours later, he had a reply – and seeds waiting just down the street. The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) today inaugurated the 12th Scientific Assembly of the International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS). The assembly brought together leading scientists, researchers, and policymakers from around the world to discuss sustainable water resource management, innovations in hydrology, and resilience to climate change. With over 627 participants from 49 countries and 682 scientific contributions, this event marks one of the largest assemblies in IAHS history. The week-long program will promote global collaboration through extensive discussions, workshops, and networking to advance water sustainability and climate adaptation.

This reduction is primarily attributed to a corresponding decrease in the extent of critical agricultural and forestland, driven by the expansion of the built environment. The findings underscore the urgent need for Mauritius to implement a more comprehensive and robust natural capital accounting system.
