European Commission’s Post

The EU’s ambitious AI Continent strategy is in full gear.      Six new AI Factories just launched in 🇨🇿🇱🇹🇳🇱🇷🇴🇪🇸🇵🇱, bringing the total to 19 supercomputing hubs that give startups and companies direct access to massive computing power.     Plus, 13 new AI Factory Antennas are now live across 🇧🇪🇨🇾🇭🇺🇮🇪🇱🇻🇲🇹🇸🇰🇮🇸🇲🇩🇨🇭🇬🇧🇲🇰🇷🇸, connecting local innovators to top-tier tech and expert support right where they are.     Why this matters for Europe's future:     ✅ For business, it means direct access to massive computing power for faster, smarter AI product development.  ✅ For citizens, it opens the way for better public services, faster healthcare, and stronger digital security.  ✅ For everyone, it delivers trustworthy, human-centric AI built on strong European ethical standards.     The infrastructure is in place.      It's time for Europe's innovators to confidently build the future on these strong foundations.    More 👉 https://lnkd.in/ekzDfr2q

A map of Europe titled "AIFACT-square.jpg" shows the distribution of AI Factories and AI Factory Antennas across the continent, along with countries participating in the EuroHPC and AIF Partner Countries.

Legend:

Existing AI Factories (open circle): Located in Spain (1HealthAI), France (L-AIF, AI2F), Italy (IT4LIA), Germany (SLAIF, HammerHAI), Poland (CZAI), Czechia (AT-AI), Romania (RO AI), and Greece (Pharos).

New AI Factories (dark blue circle): Located in the Netherlands (NLAIF), Denmark (JAIF), Sweden (MIMER), Lithuania (LitAI), Latvia (PIAST AI), and Bulgaria (BRAIN++).

New AI Factories Antennas (teal circle with a dot): Located in Luxembourg (Gaia AI).

Remaining EuroHPC Participating States (purple): Estonia, Ireland, Portugal, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, Croatia, Malta, Cyprus.

AIF Partner Countries (yellow): Norway, Finland, Iceland, United Kingdom, Switzerland, and others in Southeast Europe and North Africa, extending eastwards.

Guys. These are just data centers, not AI labs to bring the European competitor for ChatGPT 😂

Impressive progress but I can’t help wondering: will this “human-centric AI” also be trained to detect moral collapse, institutional denial, and complicity, psychopathy among leaders ? For citizens, it now means more power to leaders and algorithms that censor humanist voices: faster machines, slower consciences. Before giving AI “ethical standards,” perhaps we should prove we still have some left.

We need more funding for free and open source software, not the EU sending money to Nvidia to support a US VC hype cycle that has not yet demonstrated any viable path to sustainable profitability.

What does “AI Factories” mean? It’s nothing but datacenters, which have existed for a long time. The US has about 5,381, while the EU+UK has about 2,500! Your news are becoming more propaganda than information.

Will the EU develop a sovereign independent public open source AI Model (DeepSeek-like) or it will simply be a backend server room for the US AI Techbros oligarchs (like it happened with internet and cloud technology)?

Processes for accessing AI computing must be developed. Otherwise, money will be wasted and scientific discoveries will be hidden away in a drawer. We need transparent access to power - today, this is completely lacking, and European startups are cut off from AI power.

AI does indeed bring a lot of possibilities for the future, but I’m curious about the carbon footprint and water usage of these facilities, especially as the summers are getting hotter and some of these countries have been facing devastating wildfires each year

Map ≠ moat. “19 AI factories + 13 antennas” is PR, not compute. Where’s capacity? Count H100/H200/GB200 GPUs, not legacy CPU clusters with week-long queues. Startups need on-demand, elastic training with private tenancy, SLAs, and APIs—not committees, grants, and quotas. Power & permits: Europe’s high electricity costs, grid bottlenecks, and DC moratoria cap usable FLOPs. Publish firm-power contracts, substations, and PUE targets. Talent & capital: visas, stock-option friction, and thin late-stage funding push founders to the US/UK. Compute credits without scale-up finance = brain drain. Regulate-first mindset: AI Act/GDPR/localization add compliance fog. Ethics don’t fabricate chips; Europe still depends on NVIDIA and Taiwan fabs. Make it real: disclose installed frontier FLOPs; offer cloud-style access with SLAs; pan-EU vouchers usable on public clouds; fast-track DC permits; secure cheap, firm power.

Please don’t forget to focus as well on automation, many business and process don’t require AI

Europe is accelerating its path toward technological sovereignty and ethical AI innovation 🇪🇺🤖 With the new AI Factories and connected Antennas, startups and SMEs will gain direct access to unprecedented computing power — a decisive step toward a trustworthy, transparent, and human-centric AI made in Europe. #EuropeanCommission #AI #ArtificialIntelligence #Innovation #DigitalEurope #EuroHPC #AIFactories #TrustworthyAI #TechForGood #Europe
