The EIT Governing Board has published an updated Vision Paper to boost its role in Europe’s innovation efforts under the next EU Framework Programme. At the heart of the proposals is a clear ambition: to make the EIT a go-to hub for innovation in Europe. A new KIC Target Model sets out seven key principles for future KICs – such as simpler structures, stronger links with industry, and financial sustainability from day one – to help deliver greater impact. The paper also proposes making it easier for innovators to access EU support, improving coordination with other EU bodies like the EIC, and helping early-stage startups and widening countries tap into Europe’s innovation potential. With nearly €10 billion in external funding raised and over 1.3 million learners trained since 2008, the EIT is ready to take the next step in building a more connected, inclusive, and competitive European innovation ecosystem. Higher education is the Engine of regional innovation triangle. To be able to act efficiently as The Engine, we all HEI folks should understand: 🖖How to assess the impact of innovation education? 👌How to assess the innovation competence development of students and participating company employees? Even teachers? 👆How to organize student-company RDI so that innovations become possible, including their implementation? 👋 How to bridge from innovation to entrepreneurship as part of day-to-day learning activities? ✌️How to fascilitate the local and global innovation ecosystem so that the added value is seen every day? Applied science universities act as the operating motors on the ground level, making it happen in practise. We pedagogy developers offer tools based on research to do the Triangle co-creation. SMEs get their RDI support near them. #Hamk #EIThei #RDI #RDIL #InnovationPedagogy #HEIpowered
🧭 European Research and Innovation Days has set Europe’s innovation compass. And the direction is promising. This week in Brussels, policymakers, researchers, business leaders and ecosystem builders came together for R&I Days. Europe is moving boldly: refining its innovation agenda through scale-up strategies, life sciences, and AI-driven research. But amidst this momentum, one truth must remain front and centre: 🔑 Higher education institutions are not passengers in this journey. They are the engine. As strategies evolve and investment flows, we must not lose sight of where innovation truly begins: 🎓 In classrooms where talent is developed. 🔬 In labs where ideas are born. 💼 And in partnerships where knowledge meets industry. This is the Knowledge Triangle in motion – and universities sit at its core. They are where the future workforce is shaped, where entrepreneurial mindsets take root, and where academia connects with enterprise. The good news? Europe already has the framework to empower this role. The EIT Higher Education Initiative is helping institutions across Europe build innovation capacity, connect with industry, and equip students and staff to become active drivers of societal change. It’s a model that works. And it’s one we must now scale, sustain, and embed in how we think about European innovation policy. Because without higher education at the helm, we don’t just risk slowing down. We risk building innovation strategy without infrastructure. And you can’t grow a system without fertile ground. R&I Days proves that Europe is thinking big. Let’s make sure it’s also thinking long-term. And that higher education remains at the centre of that vision. #HEIPowered #EURI2025 #HorizonEurope #ResearchAndInnovation #EUInnovation

💡 What if high-school students could turn discarded materials into viable business ideas? That’s the question driving GUIDANCE, a three-year project funded by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) and led by Tim Huber, Senior R&T Associate at LIST. 🌱 Through hands-on workshops and the #TrashForm competition, students from participating high-schools across Luxembourg will learn to turn waste into creative, circular product ideas — blending science, design, and entrepreneurship. From researching material properties to prototyping and promoting their ideas, students will get to experience every step of the innovation journey. The most promising teams will compete in a national final at LIST. 👉 Originally inspired by an initiative Dr Huber launched in New Zealand, GUIDANCE aims to help Luxembourg’s youth imagine a more sustainable future. 🔗 Learn more about the initiative here: https://lnkd.in/eNxP6Frf #CircularDesign #Sustainability #Innovation #Luxembourg #Education

We’ve worked with startups and public partners navigating both EIT and EIC — and what often blocks impact isn’t funding access, but fractured governance and unclear accountability. If the new KIC model can truly simplify that without losing rigor, it could unlock a more resilient innovation pipeline across Europe.
