We are proud to celebrate Dr. Mark Kantrow MD FAAHPM, system medical director for palliative care, who was honored with the inaugural James Block Award for Ethical Leadership in Health Care at the 2025 Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC) National Seminar. This prestigious national award recognizes Dr. Kantrow’s decades of leadership advancing palliative care across Louisiana and Mississippi. Through his vision, our health system has developed full interdisciplinary palliative care teams—including physicians, nurses, chaplains, and social workers—ensuring patients and families receive whole-person, compassionate care rooted in dignity. Dr. Kantrow’s work has expanded access to care for vulnerable communities, established new training programs to prepare the next generation of clinicians, and created innovative tools to help patients and caregivers navigate serious illness with clarity and compassion.
