Exciting Developments in Eco-Friendly Textile Technology! As environmental awareness grows, researchers are focusing on protecting human skin from harmful UV radiation. Our work introduces a simple effective strategy to enhance the hydrophilicity and UV protection of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) knitted fabrics. By grafting green cowpea protein (CP) with gum arabic modified epoxy (GAE) as a cross-linking agent, we significantly improved the fabric's properties. The results reveal a remarkable decrease in water contact angle from 135° to 0°, showcasing superhydrophilicity. Additionally, the modified PET fabric achieved a higher UV protection factor, effectively scattering and absorbing UV light. This innovative approach not only enhances comfort through improved wettability but also utilizes affordable, natural materials that could help reduce skin cancer risks. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴... Their conventional cobalt and zirconium driers contributed nearly 15–20% of the total VOC load due to solvent-based blends. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱... They replaced conventional driers with a high-activity green drier blend based on bio-derived complexing agents and low-VOC carriers. But behind that, the dyeing process leaves a heavy footprint on wastewater. One major issue is COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand). 🔹 What is COD? It’s a measure of how much oxygen is needed to break down the pollutants in water. Higher COD = dirtier water. 🔹 Why does dyeing increase COD? Dye molecules are complex and hard to degrade. Auxiliaries (salts, surfactants, fixing agents) add more load. A large part of the dye doesn’t fix on fabric and washes out. 🔹 Impact on ETP (Effluent Treatment Plant): Higher COD demands more aeration = more energy cost. Reduces biological treatment efficiency. Risk of failing legal discharge limits. ✅ Solutions: Use eco-friendly, high-fixation dyes. Optimize dyeing recipes to minimize waste.
