Big news! For the first time, fibre cement will follow a fully closed-loop recycling process. CEMLOOP XL is a joint project that will allow us to transform fibre cement waste into a secondary raw material for low-carbon cement, and then reuse it to produce new fibre cement products. This is a major step forward in making our Etex fibre cement materials circular by design, reduce waste and lower the carbon footprint. Fully aligned with our sustainability roadmap. We had a dream in 2019… and I’m proud to see this major innovation now becoming reality!
🌍 Closing the loop in construction: Etex and Heidelberg Materials Benelux join forces for circular innovation We’re proud to announce a major milestone in sustainable construction driven by CEMLOOP XL, a joint project between Etex and Heidelberg Materials Benelux, co-funded by the EU LIFE Programme. Together, we’ve developed a breakthrough solution to recycle fibre cement waste to produce low-carbon cement, using advanced Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) technology. This innovation: ✅ Prevents 60,000 tonnes of fibre cement waste annually ✅ Saves 100,000 tonnes of raw limestone annually ✅ Reduces CO₂ emissions in cement production by at least 20% ✅ Cuts energy use by 15% ✅ Enables new products with >20% recycled content ✅ Captures or avoids ~900kg of CO₂ per tonne of recycled material For the first time, the combined expertise of two industry leaders enables a circular journey where fibre cement waste becomes a high-quality secondary raw material, reused to produce new fibre cement products. This collaboration shows what’s possible when industry leaders come together to drive change. Let’s build a more sustainable future, one innovation at a time. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eDPguXFc http://cemloopxl.eu/
