Last week I was speaking at the EBAN - European Business Angel Network Congress in Brussels, sharing insights on why cross-border investing is not just an option for Latvia — it's a necessity. Latvia is a small market. 📊 Small population 📉 Limited dealflow 🔄 Concentrated risk if we invest only locally Because of that, angel investors here must naturally think beyond borders. Cross-border investing allows us to: ✨ Access a wider pipeline of sharp and ambitious startups 🌱 Bring international know-how back into our ecosystem 🛡 Diversify our portfolio risk (industries / geography / currency) 🤝 Build partnerships with VCs and angels across Europe In Latvia, we already practice this mindset: We syndicate investments between angels, VC funds, and foreign partners We have invested outside our borders, including recently through ASP Asset Management and Latvian Business Angels Network syndicates We actively bring international startups into Latvia — not just capital For us, cross-border investing is strategic, not opportunistic. “If you only look in your backyard, you limit your potential.
