Let’s zoom in! We were at the Smart City Expo World Congress — an inspiring and thought-provoking event. Here’s a Gobe tour through some key GovTech insights! The #SCEWC25 brought together over 25,000 urban leaders, visionaries, and changemakers — across ten stages, a bustling exhibition, side events, and an innovation playground. Just a glimpse of what caught our eye through the GovTech lens 👇 1️⃣ Impact Tech Stage — Reinventing Government Through GovTech The opening GovTech session explored how leadership, innovation, and collaboration are reshaping the next generation of public administration. Moderated by Idoia Ortiz de Artiñano Goñi, it featured two leading voices in digital government: Barbara Ubaldi and Albert Tort. 2️⃣ Catalonia’s GovTech Model in Action The session “DCA, GovTech and Territory: Ecosystems for Innovation in the Public Sector”, led by CTTI - Centre de Telecomunicacions i Tecnologies de la Informació and Digital Catalonia Alliance (DCA), showcased how public–private collaboration is driving impact through real-world examples. With Dani Marco, Jaume Miralles and Angela Lalatta, among many others. Some key takeaways: - The focus shouldn’t be on technology itself, but on how it can improve public services and make a real impact. - Collaboration is the engine that keeps it all moving — and a strong ecosystem makes it possible. In Catalonia, startups bring agility, big companies open doors, and research centers fuel new ideas. - We used to talk about Proofs of Concept (POCs). Now the focus is shifting toward the processes needed to scale sustainable solutions that make a real impact on citizens’ lives. 3️⃣ Startup Area — Smart City Solutions Made in Spain! The Innovation Playground was buzzing with 80 bold startups in urban development — like Agforest, pioneering GeoAI for smarter, greener cities. A series of pitches in the Spanish Pavilion also highlighted powerful GovTech solutions made in Spain for more sustainable, connected cities — from Kunak Technologies SL, URBIOTICA, Meep, IoTsens, Nemi, GEOACTIO, Neural Labs, Nommon, and many others. 4️⃣ World Smart City Awards — Spotlight on Córdoba Among the finalists, we highlight Fondo Córdoba Ciudad Inteligente — the first GovTech public fund in Latin America, developed by CorLab (Córdoba Ciudad Inteligente) in collaboration with BID Lab. We recently studied it as a GovTech case for the region — and it’s a good model for promoting a GovTech ecosystem that drives real impact. ➕ Beyond the stages, it was great to see many institutions, like Ayuntamiento de Madrid, championing collaboration. So much inspiration and energy to keep shaping the future of GovTech! If you were there, we’d love to hear your highlights!
