It’s critical that we don’t give students a false sense of reality. In clinical settings, they won’t work in ideal one-to-one nurse-to-patient ratios. They’ll be interrupted, they’ll delegate, and they’ll need to make quick decisions under pressure. By exposing students to these real-world dynamics now, we help reduce job shock and better prepare them for the demands of professional nursing. Equip your nursing students with the skills they need to thrive in today’s dynamic healthcare environments. Wolters Kluwer’s simulation solutions provide immersive, scenario-based learning that builds clinical confidence and competence. Our innovative tools support competency-based education by bridging the gap between theory and hands-on practice. Enhance your curriculum with advanced technology designed to promote patient safety and compassionate care—ensuring learners are confident, capable, and ready for practice. I recently came across a post from a PMHNP student who’s been working full-time night shifts while juggling coursework—only to find out, for the second semester in a row, they still don’t have a preceptor placement. Sadly, this isn’t an isolated story. Many nurse practitioner students, especially in online programs, face this uphill battle. At the same time, preceptors—the backbone of NP education—are reaching their limits. Many are saying no to taking students not out of unwillingness, but because of burnout, liability concerns, time constraints, and minimal institutional support. This cycle hurts everyone: 💡 Students lose opportunities. 💡 Preceptors lose motivation. 💡 The healthcare system loses future providers. So here’s the question: What would make precepting sustainable again? Better pay? Reduced administrative load? Formal recognition and support from institutions?

🎓 Yesterday we hosted our Educators Conference, bringing together educators from across all clinical backgrounds. A huge thank you to everyone who joined us — and to all the educators shaping the next generation of the NHS workforce. Nick Merrifield set the tone perfectly, speaking about the importance of training, development, and the long-term workforce plan that underpins everything we do. Jennie Morrison’s story reminded us of the power of a single placement — how one experience can shape an entire career and inspire the next generation of nurses. Yvonne Coldron highlighted the incredible expertise within NHS England, the support for Master’s degrees, and the different routes to Advanced Practice recognition, helping educators and employers grow and retain talent. Martin Brunet had us thinking differently about patient interactions — likening it to building a house: patients know their homes best, and our role is to step inside respectfully and understand where the cracks or pinch points lie. Douglas Hing & Vasa talking about the power of our very own multi professional faculty Dr Eugenia Lee then brought it all together beautifully, sharing reflections on leadership, learning, and the role of educators in driving continuous improvement across primary care. We closed the day on a high with Dame Clare Gerada and Emma Henderson , in conversation about the power of humour and laughter – even in the toughest times. Clare shared how this theme took her all the way to the Edinburgh Fringe, exploring how humour helps us cope, connect, and carry on. 💬 Their message was clear: if we don’t laugh, we can’t do our jobs – not just to stay well ourselves, but to keep our patients safe. If you’ve ever thought about hosting a student — or are sitting on the fence — reach out to your local Training Hub. Because one placement really can change everything. Hiring from the outside is expensive. 📉 $48K to replace a nurse by hiring externally. 💸 $97K when using the average healthcare focused college. But growing your own with Guild network institutions? That’s $41K. Guild helps healthcare systems build the nursing workforce from within — and cut costs while they’re at it. Learn how applied learning systems help health systems grow talent from within — and make every dollar count: https://lnkd.in/eY-bFift
