At Heidelberg Materials Benelux, safety is a priority but also a shared responsibility. Every day, in the field, it is the actions, vigilance and commitment of each individual that make the difference. Because no goal is worth achieving if it cannot be achieved safely.
Safety focus - nip rollers. Short video clip from a great piece of training kit at our Schelklingen plant in Germany. The aim is to try to pull back the tool as it gets caught in the roller - absolutely no chance! It was great I was being trained alongside our young apprentices, clearly being shown the real danger of these rollers, which look harmless and are in place all over our plants. The message is clear - treat them with high respect. Never take the guards off, always apply strict LOTOTO procedures when around them, and a new piece of advice I received - remove anything with a handle from around them (because a human instinct is to try to hold on if it gets caught, with catastrophic consequences). Stay safe!
