Unity CVE-2025-59489: rebuild or risk it A newly disclosed Unity Runtime flaw (CVE-2025-59489, CVSS 8.4) enables code execution and data exposure via unsafe/abused command-line loading. Platform vendors moved fast—Valve/Steam shipped mitigations and Microsoft delisted some titles—but developers still need to rebuild affected games and apps. Why this matters (no fluff): The issue spans Unity 2017.1 → recent on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android. It’s a local argument-injection / unsafe load vector—serious enough that multiple platforms added hard blocks. Risk persists until your app is rebuilt and republished with patched Unity Runtime. What we recommend (do it now): Upgrade & rebuild with Unity’s patched editor/runtime; republish across stores. If you truly can’t rebuild yet, use Unity’s temporary patcher where eligible—but treat it as a bridge, not a fix. Harden launch paths: block untrusted command-line args; validate loaders and plugin search paths. Operate ringed releases with immediate rollback, and track MTTR/MTTP (mean time to remediate/patch). Player comms: publish a status note; advise launching through Steam only until your update lands. The basic steps are to enable secure boot and verisign and configure your kernel to disallow the loading of dynamic kernel modules.
