Europe’s quantum ambitions just took a major leap — Copenhagen-based 55 North has launched a €300 million fund focused entirely on quantum technologies, securing €134 million in its first close from Novo Holdings and Denmark’s EIFO. It’s being described as the world’s largest dedicated quantum VC fund, spanning computing, sensing, and communications — and aims to back ventures like IQM and Kiutra already driving Europe’s quantum ecosystem forward... With 2025 declared the UN’s International Year of Quantum Science, this marks a shift from theory to commercial reality. Global public funding in quantum has reached $40 billion, and Europe is positioning itself to lead — not just consume — the next generation of computing infrastructure. At Quantum Europe 2025 in Brussels, one message resonated clearly: Europe has everything it needs to stay competitive — but only if we act together. Henna Virkkunen underlined that few technologies reflect Europe’s future more than quantum, and Marc Lemaître reminded us that lasting competitiveness will depend on a shared roadmap between the public and private sectors. That’s why we partnered with Forum Europe as Global Industry Partner — to help connect these efforts and turn Europe’s quantum strengths into real industrial progress, representing the global and European quantum industry . Quantum Industry Day in Switzerland: a yearly checkpoint on how the quantum ecosystem evolves. This year the event took place under the umbrella of the Swiss Quantum Week, and it's impressive to see how the event has grown over the years (I believe my first participation was back in 2019), attracting more attention and addressing the key topics shaping the ecosystem. For me, the notable takeaways are: 🔹 A strong and growing community - the audience keeps expanding, with a high interest from young professionals from quantum and photonics backgrounds. The talent pipeline is clearly building up. 🔹 More open conversations around creation of supply chains and their resilience, technological sovereignty topics, and the role of governments as early users and supporters of quantum technologies. 🔹 Going beyond the lab - there is an increasing focus on industrialisation, testing, and scalability of quantum systems and their building blocks, as well as on the algorithmic developments bridging the technology with real-world problems. I also had the chance to contribute to the program with a talk, discussing the importance of balance between pushing the limits and having mature and scalable processes, highlighting how LIGENTEC's low-loss silicon nitride platforms with advanced integration capabilities act as an enabler for quantum applications. Many thanks to Ann-Katrin U. Michel for the invitation and Moritz Kirste for chairing the session. It is encouraging to see the level of engagement, not just in technology, but in the way the international quantum community discusses challenges and shared goals.
