Microsoft plans to retire basic authentication for SMTP (username/password) by April 30, 2026, with blocking starting from March 1, 2026. What’s changing: • Basic auth will be fully disabled • Devices or apps still using it will fail with “550 5.7.30 Basic authentication is not supported” • App passwords and legacy methods will stop working What to do: • Move to OAuth 2.0 (Modern Auth) • For older devices (like printers), consider: – SMTP Relay – Direct Send – OAuth-capable SMTP gateway Has your organization already made the move, or are you planning it soon?
