Will the next wave of unicorns be circular? 🦄🔁 I've asked Nic Gorini, General Partner at Spin Ventures, to join the podcast and explain why circularity could be the next source of outsized returns. Here’s what we covered: → What turning waste into value really means → Why producing less drives more profit → How to invest in double materiality → ...and more! We also explore companies like Kibu, Nanoloom, By Rotation, NORNORM, and Batch.Works - each tackling circularity in innovative ways. Great episode Hugo! 🙌
Great one! The part about circularity in the tech stuff is what I find most interesting (solar panels, rare earths, batteries, etc.)
I am still amazed at how the West and VCs are approaching this space. Europe’s waste management space is imploding, 6 bankruptcies and liquidations in as many months. Im speaking about the guys that collect and process into a fuel or pellets for further value addition. If you’re building a hard asset technology that requires “patient” capital to deploy and produce end products like fuels or batteries then debt or convertible debt is the the right tool for the job. Build out the logistics and supply chain first before deploying. India’s waste and circularity has totally different dimensions that the West cannot comprehend, and therefore all the new apps and technologies being floated mean very little in a market that requires hard capital investment. We have the IP, we have the proven technology, and the partnerships. We are ready to deploy at scale.
Right up my ally, developing a new extrusion system for Large Additive Manufacturing turn main feedstock into Variable Compositions when you need it. No more big batch runs, no need to have excess stock on the shelf waiting for a specific use. Also capable of variable properties throughout a single printed object.
The idea of circularity isn't just about reducing waste; it's a fundamental shift that creates new value and profit. It makes perfect sense that smart investors are looking here—the next big successes will come from businesses that understand how to turn waste into a resource. ♻️🦄Hugo Rauch
