Packaging sustainability is more than a swap from plastic for paper: the choice of material to use is about finding the fine balance between availability, sustainability, functionality and cost. In the session with Chick-fil-A Restaurants, US Plastics Pact, Veritiv and Canopy at the Sustainable Packaging Innovation Forum, we’ll discuss how leading brands and organisations approach material choices in packaging. Our expert panel, featuring Renata Neri, ♻️Jonathan Quinn♻️, Chris Bradley and Cait Green and moderated by Shira Lane, will set the scene for a discussion looking at: 🔹 Practical examples of frameworks and metrics that inform decision making - from sourcing, to end of life 🔹 Trade-offs between carbon, circularity and cost, and how to strike a balance 🔹How to anticipate consumer acceptance and ensure their experience remains at the centre of packaging innovation 🔹Local considerations from cultural norms to recycling infrastructure 📅 October 28, 11am-11:50am 📍 Chicago, in-person (you can register to join us here: https://lnkd.in/dabQ32QC)

Sustainable packaging isn’t a simple swap from plastic to paper. At Veritiv, we see it as a system that demands balance between carbon, circularity, performance, and perception. I’m looking forward to joining leaders from Chick-fil-A, US Plastics Pact, and Canopy at the Sustainable Packaging Innovation Forum to explore how brands are navigating these trade-offs and designing smarter material frameworks.

“Whataboutism” in the packaging industry can lead to a decline in consumer trust in brands by creating mixed messages and making adoption of sustainable solutions harder, according to Alexander Reitz, head of Consulting and Development at German recycling company, PreZero International. Reitz tells Packaging Insights that whataboutism affects the adoption of environmentally sustainable packaging, warning it can “paralyze” innovation by casting doubt on new solutions. #sustainability #pakcagingnews #innovation #circulareconomy #packagingsolutions Reported by Libby Davis. "We manufacture machine in the plastic industry, in packaging principally. And we would like to implement the business, downside and upstream. The use of recycled plastic is going to be more and more compulsory, especially in Europe, with the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) and the Single-Use Plastics (SUPD) as well. And also the big brands have a global strategy on sustainability." 🟢⚪🔴 Tomorrow is the big day! 📦 40% of consumers globally are willing to pay more for eco-friendly packaging — and in markets like Mexico, Brazil, India, and China, that number jumps to over 70%. 🌎 The pressure (and opportunity) to rethink packaging is real. In their recent article, my McKinsey & Company colleagues Daniel Nordigården, David Feber, Gregory Vainberg, and Oskar Lingqvist unpack what it takes to win in sustainable packaging by 2025 — from navigating performance and cost trade-offs to scaling circular solutions. 🔍 Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/e2Yhf2ap 💬 How are you seeing packaging evolve in your region or industry? #SustainablePackaging #CircularEconomy #PackagingInnovation #ESG #McKinseyInsights

Last week, I attended The Packaging Solutions Summit IV at The Conduit, London, sponsored by Plastic Free, Made Thought and Pack Lion. The focus? How sustainable packaging will shape the future of beauty. My key takeaways: - Sustainability = leadership. The British Beauty Council and partners like A Plastic Planet are mobilising the industry through initiatives such as the Sustainable Beauty Coalition and the Great British Beauty Cleanup. - Regulation is raising the bar. With EPR and CSRD, the question is not if we need to change, but how fast we can change. - Recycling isn’t enough. The future is reuse, refill and circularity. - Innovation is here. Shellworks, Nopala, Izzy Beauty and Packlion are proving sustainable materials aren’t “future”, they’re now. - It’s personal. Sustainability is about human health, ethics, and our planet. Feeling energised and hopeful for what’s ahead. A big thank you to the organisers, speakers, and a special shoutout to Michelle Sartorio from AUĒ NATURAL LTD for leading such an inspiring project in the natural beauty and personal care space. Onward to a more sustainable future for beauty. 💚 #SustainableBeauty #PackagingInnovation #CircularDesign #FutureOfBeauty #CollaborationForChange #SustainabilityLeadership
