Research Spotlight from IDSS @ Hochschule Karlsruhe (HKA) / University of Applied Sciences We are excited to share that our researcher Alexander Niedermayer, together with David Monschein and Prof. Dr. Oliver Waldhorst, presented their paper at the 3rd Workshop on Machine Learning in Networking (MaLeNe 2025), co-located with the NetSys 2025 conference in Ilmenau, Germany. 🎉 📄 Paper title: Client–Agnostic Continuous Authentication via Keystroke–Induced Traffic Patterns 🔗 Read the paper here: https://lnkd.in/emE5Y2aZ Their work introduces a novel method for continuous, client-agnostic user authentication by analyzing keystroke-induced network traffic patterns. This approach eliminates the need for client-side modifications and thereby reduces usability drawbacks. This research demonstrates how machine learning and network monitoring can be combined to create user-friendly security solutions. #MachineLearning #NetworkSecurity #ContinuousAuthentication #HKA #IDSS #Research

I’m excited to share that our new article “Integrated Sensing, Communication, and Computing for Energy Efficient RIS-aided Wireless Federated Learning” has been published (Early Access) in the IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology (TVT). This work, co-authored with Mohammad Mansour Kesargheh, nima nouri, Dr. abdulhamid zahedi, Prof. Jamshid Abouei, and Prof. Arash Mohammadi, PhD, P.Eng. (PEO), presents an energy-efficient Integrated Sensing, Communication, and Computing (ISCC) framework for privacy-preserving wireless Federated Learning (FL) at the network edge in 6G and beyond systems. We propose an RIS-assisted ISCC model that jointly optimizes user selection, computing frequency, and resource allocation to enhance energy efficiency while maintaining reliable communication and sensing performance. The formulated mixed-integer nonlinear optimization problem (MINLP) is efficiently solved via successive linear programming (SLP), and simulation results confirm that our NOMA-enabled ISCC scheme significantly outperforms existing benchmarks. 🔗 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/dV-r9bb5 #Research #Publication #6G #FederatedLearning #ISCC #ISAC #RIS #EnergyEfficiency #WirelessCommunications #TVT

Picuslab is happy to share their recent publication entitled “ERMNF: A novel multiplex network fusion method based on edge relevance” - whose authors are Oumayma Achour, Lotfi Ben Romdhane, and Giancarlo Sperlì - has been accepted in the Information Science journal. It is a joint work with the ISITCOM | Institut Supérieur d'Informatique et des Techniques de Communication (Tunisia). We propose an edge relevance-based multiplex network fusion (ERMNF) model, which transforms the multiplex network into a monoplex network while preserving its essential structural properties. ERMNF operates in three main phases. First, it collects the links from all layers into a single-layer network. Next, ERMNF determines the relevance of each link in the binary aggregated network using two different edge relevance models based on the concept of shortest paths. Finally, it removes irrelevant links using an edge reduction (ER) model, while maintaining the set of nodes. https://lnkd.in/djZ4922S #socialnetworkanalysis #influencemaximization #networkfusion #multilayernetwork

On October 29, 1969, the first-ever computer-to-computer link was established on ARPANET, a groundbreaking network that laid the foundation for the modern internet. This initial connection between computers at UCLA and the Stanford Research Institute marked the beginning of a new era in communication, enabling the sharing of information across distances. The first message sent was the word “LOGIN,” though the system crashed after transmitting just the first two letters. ARPANET used innovative packet-switching technology, which breaks data into small packets sent independently, making communication more efficient and resilient. By the end of that year, ARPANET connected four major research centers, paving the way for the vast, interconnected digital world we rely on today. #PivotalMoments #InternetHistory #ARPANET #TechMilestone

"Reese Richardson presented his recent research on how IP systems can be exploited to manipulate academic reputations. His investigation uncovered a large-scale phenomenon in which intermediaries [...] sell so-called “UK design patents” to academics seeking to boost their academic scores or meet promotion criteria. These, however, are not actual patents but design registrations, which are granted without novelty review and therefore easy to obtain. Richardson and his team identified thousands of such registrations, often reusing identical images, titles, and even absurd or plagiarised 3D models, ranging from “AI-based humanoids” to a “skin cancer inspection device” that turned out to be a 3D model of a handgun with a screen attached." 🔵 The most recent #IP4OSwebinar is now on our project website! Featuring as speaker, Reese Richardson, a metascientist specialising in reproducibility, bias, and scientific fraud, the webinar covered how the team led by Richardson discovered the sale of thousands of design registrations under the guise of “patents” as an explicit ploy for academics to pad their CVs and improve their standing in institutional rankings. 🔗 If you missed joining the webinar, you can find insights and the full recording on the IP4OS website: https://lnkd.in/des4N3Vs #IP4OS #IntellectualProperty #OpenScience European Research Executive Agency (REA)
