NEW IKV BRIEF ON THE NEW PACT ON MIGRATION AND ASYLUM: A POTENTIAL SOLUTION TO ALLEVIATE THE BURDEN ON EU MEMBER STATES The New Pact on Migration and Asylum was adopted on 14 May 2024, introducing several new rules aimed at managing migration and establishing a common asylum system at the EU level. The Pact seeks to ensure that the EU’s external borders are secure and robust, while safeguarding the rights of individuals, and preventing any single EU country from facing disproportionate pressure. Since its inception, most Member States have welcomed the idea and the potential outcomes of the Pact. This paper will explore the potential impacts of the Pact on Italy and Greece, making a comparison between the two countries and examining the situation of Türkiye as a candidate country.
