Why have audiences of traditional media plummeted? How do they get informed, what do they consider to be news, and where do they turn to find it? At the iMEdD International Journalism Forum, four journalists discussed how influence has shifted from traditional media to social media and newsfluencers. 📖 Read the article by Phoebe Fronista https://lnkd.in/d8m-fQYP 📺 #iMEdDIJF25 sessions now available on YouTube

Poynter gathers change-makers in the journalism world to explore the issues that matter. We recently hosted a conversation on one of the most pressing topics today: how understanding market and audience needs can help turn news platforms into something sustainable and successful. The conversation also highlighted the role of news entrepreneurship, innovative approaches to engagement and the essential role of political journalism Later this month, Poynter will once again connect journalism leaders in New York. Dean Baquet and Cleo Abram will explore how they’ve earned public trust in an evolving media landscape, and what their experiences can teach us about reaching audiences with depth, clarity and credibility. Is journalism becoming too opinionated? There's a concern that some young journalists prioritize personal viewpoints over factual reporting. Instead of thoroughly examining a situation and reporting facts, they immediately jump to a point of view. Even when striving for objectivity, a journalist's opinion will inevitably seep into the story. The key is to clearly distinguish between facts and personal opinions, something that is often lacking in today's media landscape. #journalism #media #reporting #facts #objectivity

What happens when journalism starts to look and live like its audience? Muck Rack’s State of Creator Journalism 2025 reveals that one in three journalists now self-publish: not for clicks or cash, but for creative freedom and control. I’ve been in ongoing conversations with journalism and strategic communications leaders about what this shift really signals: audiences no longer just consume media, they expect it to reflect their realities and values. Creator journalists are meeting that expectation, building trust through proximity, relevance, and authenticity. The gatekeepers have changed. The responsibility to earn trust hasn’t. https://lnkd.in/g3YRfQBn #CreatorJournalism #AudienceEngagement #BrandTrust #MediaTrends #Storytelling

Muck Rack's first State of Creator Journalism report is here! - Half of creator journalists have been self-publishing for 5+ years, proof this isn’t a short-term shift - Most publish on their own sites or newsletters, and they’re 60% more likely than traditional journalists to view social media as essential to their work - 82% say PR pitches spark some of their stories, but relevance remains a challenge, with most calling pitches off-target - Nearly a third see PR pros as essential partners, a higher rate than newsroom reporters Read the report: https://lnkd.in/eZpmqfzt

Professor Danny Hayes from George Washington University discusses innovative methods for evaluating the community impact of local journalism. The discussion highlights findings from a 2024 Lenfest Institute study, analyzing the influence of New Hampshire Public Radio, Bridge Michigan, and Montana Free Press. For example, in Michigan, 45% of Bridge Michigan readers could name their state house representative, compared to only 28% of those who got news from other outlets. It's a combination of the Statewide News Collective outlets' journalism informing people and already informed individuals gravitating to these news sources. #LocalJournalism #CommunityImpact #NewsMedia #PoliticalScience #StatewideNews

"Worlds of Journalism: Journalistic Cultures Around the Globe" This book made me think: How do journalists experience editorial autonomy and external pressure? In a fragmented media landscape how the press is going to sustain public trust? How can media leaders, educators, and aspiring journalists internalize the idea that best practices cannot simply be transplanted — they must adapt to the local journalistic culture? A must read for all aspiring journalists. #Journalism #MediaStudies #CommunicationResearch #GlobalMedia #JournalisticCulture #PressFreedom #MediaEthics #MediaTransformation #NewsroomCulture #ComparativeJournalism #AIandMedia #MediaEducation #MediaLeadership
