A very interesting round table discussion on decarbonizing industry took place in Oslo last week, hosted by Emmanuel Macron and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre during the French President's official visit. Among all the solutions that can currently support the greening of #industry (from #renewableenergies to e-fuels, or heating and cooling networks), we highlighted the role that #CarbonCapture and storage can play in making the decarbonization of this sector more accessible.    The pertinence of #CCS was notably underlined by Anders Opedal, CEO of Equinor, and Tim Heijn, CEO of Northern Lights JV, who both demonstrated their commitment and ambition to develop long-term carbon storage opportunities in #Norway at a competitive cost.   From my perspective, I illustrated the importance of this solution using the example of H2BE, a “blue” #hydrogen project obtained by cracking methane with carbon capture, which ENGIE is developing with Equinor near Gand in Belgium. The carbon captured in this project would be transported to Norway via a gas pipeline developed by Equinor (CO2 highway) and stored in deep geological formations. This project would therefore enable the production of low-carbon hydrogen at a much more competitive cost than green hydrogen, contributing to the development of this market in Europe.   In the end, decarbonizing industry in Europe is essential and every solution that contributes to this must be developed. This is imperative not only to meet the #climatechallenge, but also for the sustainability, competitiveness and strategic independence of #Europe !
