I’m slightly obsessed with The Diplomat on Netflix. It has: 🗡️ Kate Wyler, a flawed, brilliant, relatable lead 🎤 Razor-sharp dialogue ⚡ Endless power plays, shifting status and near-miss disasters It’s gripping, smart, and full of communication lessons that go way beyond politics: 1️⃣ Listen properly. Don’t just wait for your turn, because in this show, the person who actually listens usually wins the argument. 2️⃣ Be assertive. Stay polite, but don’t get flattened. Speak up, and throw a lifeline to anyone else being steamrollered. 3️⃣ Be kind to yourself. Everyone in this show is one crisis away from a breakdown, so remember: self-compassion beats self-destruction. 4️⃣ Dress well. Smart clothes say “I’m ready.” They project dedication, organisation and self-respect before you've even said a word. Sure, it’s about diplomacy, not your average Monday meeting, but the lessons are solid. Watch it, steal the techniques, use them at work. Ideally without the international incident. #selfdevelopment #confidence #communication
Ummmm. Guilty. Must appeal to Brits and Americans!
Good observations and a great series.
I loved this too, Jon. It all feels very real. And absolutely brilliantly written.
Every scene in The Diplomat feels like a live demo in confident communication!
I've binged watched since it first came out. The writing is excellent. I love the messiness of the characters, the ideas in situ, the overstepping, the annoyance, the dishevelled look Kate has and as you say, the continual near misses.
I agree - a masterpiece of communication skills (and the sharp thinking helps too!)
Agreed! I think this is such a sharp show.
Love it Jon
Loved every minute, finished series three last night and the final episode alone speaks to everything you say here.
