If we want the UK to be a successful nation with strong economic growth we also need to recognise the value and contribution of level 7 and level 8 skills - postgraduate masters and PhD studies which many high tech industries require. These students often re-enter HE after significant work experience. At Cranfield University we support these students at the point of entry and throughout their careers.

While we understand the sector’s frustration, five years ago the financial challenges facing the UK #highered sector could have been addressed & perhaps some of this damaging legislation, such as the #internationalstudent levy & reduction in #poststudywork, could have been avoided. If #UUK & the wider sector had focused on disassociating #internationaleducation from what was a totally predictable politically motivated #immigration debate, they might not now be giving evidence to Parliament on the “Threat of Insolvency & International Students” in UK #highereducation. Back in 2019, & many times since, we wrote that #internationalstudents need more than #poststudywork. The key to sustainable international #studentrecruitment and long-term growth lies in evidencing international #graduateoutcomes in students’ home countries. Doing so would have given the UK a unique selling point in global #highereducation, allowing universities to differentiate themselves through outcomes and to demonstrate the ROI of a UK #degree. Asia Careers Group SDN BHD has spent a decade tracking the #career trajectories of tens of thousands of #internationalgraduates from #UK, #Australian universities, that have returned home following their #degrees.
