👁️ Even subtle eyes can change how we behave. New research by Huili Yan, Yifan Lu, Yuzhi Wei, and Hao Xiong reveals how eye cues in tourism settings heighten public self-awareness and reduce uncivilized behavior, but the effect fades when spaces feel crowded. A powerful reminder that thoughtful design can shape more sustainable tourism experiences. Find link in the comments! #SustainableTourism #BehavioralScience

🧠 Behavioral scientists know that people overweight immediate costs and undervalue future benefits. In tourism, this bias means that guests often reject small-price upgrades or eco-options, even if the long-term benefits (lower footprint, better experience) are substantial. 💡 So, what can you do to increase demand for more responsible but more expensive options? Reframe the sustainable choices as immediate gains. Example: “Select our green shuttle - skip traffic and arrive sooner” 📘 You can read more about this and many other biases yjay biases that influence how guests respond to green messaging in the 2023 Behavioural Science for Sustainable Tourism (OECD) report. 🔗Link: https://lnkd.in/d2F4rb2x

🗯️ Economists Talk Art 🗨️ ❓ What can Big Data reveal about tourism beyond Europe’s famous capitals? That’s the question behind the latest Economists Talk Art post by Karol J. Borowiecki, Maja U. Pedersen, and Marco Palomeque Carrillo. Drawing on 12 million TripAdvisor reviews (2016–2022), the authors explore who visits Europe’s peripheral regions - from Sicily’s coastal towns to Sweden’s remote islands - and what this means for sustainable tourism. Their findings show: 🔹 TripAdvisor reviews mirror official tourism flows, offering real-time, granular insights; 🔹 Domestic visitors filled part of the gap when international travel collapsed during COVID-19; 🔹 Peripheral regions hold untapped potential to ease pressure on crowded hubs and promote balanced regional growth. 👉 Read the full post on ETA: https://lnkd.in/eFczDUtd #EconomistsTalkArt #TourismEconomics #BigData #SustainableTourism #CulturalTourism #CulturalEconomics
