What do an optometry professor, a medtech founder, and a DFV Churchill Fellow have in common? They’ve all taken a very different, but equally impressive, paths from research to real-world impact! Last Thursday, I had the privilege of hosting QUT (Queensland University of Technology) Commercialisation Club with three incredible speakers: ⭐ Prof Michael Collins – $28M in commercial research funding, a decade+ long-term partnership with J&J Vision Care and deep industry engagement experience ⭐ Dr Kate Lomas – founder of Hemideina ($20M raised), now shaping quantum and deep tech policy in State Government as well as building her next startup(s)! ⭐ Dr Cameron Cliff – from a PhD in storytelling to leading new initiatives in edtech unicorn Go1, to now founding Capyble - providing business with access to expert knowledge and support around domestic and family violence. I'm very grateful to each of the speakers for generously sharing what it really takes to turn research into a reality - the skills they had to build, the advice that made a difference, the moments that shaped their journeys. A great reminder that there is no single path to impact, but it often starts with a persistent urge to solve something that can't be ignored!
