Big ideas are born when great minds come together. Our VP of Marketing and Sales Ops, Cory Peterson, joined this dinner conversation on how experimentation and AI come together. Here are the key takeaways Cory brought back to our team: 1. AI is here, but how companies are scaling up their usage varies widely. Most of the participants leaned towards scaling with caution, but a few pounded the table that cautious scaling will leave you in the dust. 2. Teams of all sizes are putting time into thinking about how AI can be utilized to speed up experimentation-led growth. This common theme was recurring at Speero's #EXL2025 as well. 3. There is a lot of momentum towards the Center of Excellence data warehousing to centralize all tests, research, and other relevant data that multiple teams want to be able to easily query. I’ve been stewing on the question lately of what it actually would look like to set up a bio lab environment to capture physical experiment data, including all the tacit knowledge that human scientists use when operating in labs. I’ve been hanging out with bio phd students and they tell pretty much all tell me the same thing—90% of the time, protocols that look good on paper fail in practice, because small but significant details are missing ie. hold the pipette at a 45 degree angle, not vertical or, when introducing autonomous machinery, translating human intuition ("add dropwise until cloudy") doesn’t compute, literally. Just the other day, someone told me “operating a lab is often like witchcraft” 🧙♀️ :) That’s why AI for life science research is compelling, and for sure in the tap water we’re all drinking in San Francisco. I’m into it, but also trying to understand what's realistic as well as how to apply this for the collective good. I’m much more interested in what happens when models are trained not just on internet data, but also on biological data, and further by running experiments (much faster than we can) in the physical world. I’m convinced that AI scientists will change the game of breakthrough R&D, in everything from materials science, food & ag, and health that have huge implications on carbon emissions as well. I’ll be at the AI x Bio demos today @ Monomer Bio to see how people are tackling the high-throughput experiment + AI-feedback/training loops question and what else I’m missing. This is going to be fun. The Age of AI feels magical, not because it replaces us, but because it reminds us how to be human again. Somewhere along the way we started acting like robots, optimizing every minute and numbing every feeling. AI, used well, can do the opposite: give us time, presence, and permission to feel. Edo Segal’s Napster‑era lens on an open “view and suite” of AI characters is a perfect example. Tools that meet people in real scenarios, work, learning, health, creativity, so the tech adapts to us, not the other way around. Today I spoke with an entrepreneur who sings when he’s stressed. His body knows how to self‑heal. That’s the bar for AI: help us notice the signal, process the emotion, and move forward with more clarity. Teams, agents, algorithms, together they should amplify our humanity, not drown it out. The game is changing in real time. Let’s build with empathy, guardrails and accountability. Build systems that listen. Design agents that explain themselves. Aim for outcomes that make people feel more present, more creative, more connected. If AI helps us slow down enough to hear our own voice again, that’s progress. We’re here for the experiments that make us better humans, not busier ones.
