MENDELU is launching two new free online courses that combine science with business practice and offer participants the opportunity to learn the basics of innovation and precision medicine. Latin School’s Assistant Director of Academic Affairs, Erica Washburn, has been invited to present at the CBExchange Conference on November 12.   Erica will co-host the session ‘Designing Competency-based Systems for Educator Growth’ with Rita Fennelly-Atkinson, Ed.D., Senior Director of Strategy and Innovation at Digital Promise.   Their presentation takes the stance that in order to provide competency-based experiences for students, educators must engage in competency-based learning themselves.   Here is a description of their session from the conference summary: “From the broader micro-credential ecosystem to school-level frameworks for faculty growth, feedback, and evaluation, participants will gain insights into how competency-based systems enable educators to demonstrate their expertise, receive meaningful recognition, and pursue ongoing professional growth.”   Erica will also be leading a discussion during the Cross-Sector CBE Roundtable at the same conference. Jisc is collaborating with academic libraries across higher education to develop a library-centric view of its digital transformation framework. In this new piece for #CILIP's Information Professional magazine, Peter Findlay, Subject Matter Expert for Digital Scholarship (Content & Discovery) at Jisc, explores why a dedicated library focus is essential for digital transformation, and what lies ahead. Many organisations are experiencing rapid change in their digital practices. Taking control of these changes is often referred to as digital transformation and defined by EDUCAUSE as “a series of deep and coordinated culture, workforce and technology shifts that enable new educational and operating models and transform an institution’s operations, strategic directions, and value proposition.” Jisc has been developing this definition further, working with partner institutions to co-design an approach tailored to higher education and building on it’s 2023 Framework for Digital Transformation in Higher Education. 45 organisations, including #CILIP have partnered to co-design a library-specific lens on the framework. 🎙️✨ Speaking up about what keeps teaching meaningful ✨🎙️ I’m excited to take the stage at the WERA Focal Meeting 2025 in João Pessoa to share insights that drive my work as a researcher and practitioner: 📌 The Social-Conative Perspective of Optimal Teaching Experience: The Role of Students in Teachers’ Flow State My core question: 👉 What still allows teachers to feel deeply engaged and fulfilled in their profession, despite rising burnout worldwide? Findings from my research are unequivocal: Teachers’ flow state — that optimal moment where teaching becomes joyfully immersive — is grounded in three essential social-conative determinants: 1️⃣ Quality of relationships with students: trust, cooperation and mutual recognition 2️⃣ Sense of personal efficacy: feeling competent in pedagogy and classroom management 3️⃣ Sense of collective efficacy: belonging to a supportive and collaborative professional community 🌱 When these three drivers align, they cultivate professional well-being and fulfillment — what I call bienvivance — where teachers can do well while feeling well.
