Europe is building something remarkable in the artificial intelligence landscape, and it's happening right now. The establishment of AI Factories across our continent represents not just an infrastructure investment, but a fundamental shift in how we think about AI development, trust, and accessibility. What makes this initiative particularly meaningful is its human-centric approach. Through the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking, we're creating dynamic ecosystems that bring together supercomputing power, data, and talent to develop trustworthy AI models while respecting European values and fundamental rights. These aren't just computational facilities, they're collaborative hubs linking supercomputing centers, universities, SMEs, industry, and financial actors across Europe. The numbers tell an impressive story. By 2025-2026, at least 15 AI Factories and several Antennas will be operational, with nine new AI-optimized supercomputers deployed across the EU, more than tripling current EuroHPC AI computing capacity. The October 2025 announcement of six additional AI Factories in the Czech Republic, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Romania, Spain, and Poland, alongside 13 AI Factory Antennas, demonstrates the rapid expansion of this pan-European infrastructure. The healthcare sector stands to benefit significantly from this infrastructure. AI Factories are driving advancements in applications like more accurate diagnoses, personalized medicine, drug discovery, and enhanced efficiency in healthcare provision. The emphasis on handling highly sensitive data, including health information, with appropriate safeguards reflects the responsible approach European AI development is taking. What distinguishes the European approach is the balance between excellence and trust. While building world-class AI infrastructure, Europe maintains its commitment to safety, fundamental rights, and democratic values through frameworks like the AI Act.
