There has been a sharp rise in AI video cloud platforms entering the market in recent years. Most of these solutions require on-prem server hardware to work in combination with the provider’s cloud portal, making it often overly combersome and expensive to achieve AI-driven outcomes. Although there is a place for server-cloud set ups to meet customers’ more challenging AI video requirements, it’s not needed in the vast majority of cases. AI-powered video analytics embedded or installed on a camera (at the edge) is often an easier, more flexible, lower cost solution that delivers the same, or better, outcomes. Before investing in AI video as part of your digital transformation strategy, consider edge (on-camera) versus server-cloud based options carefully. The AI capability you’re after often already exists in your camera or can simply be added to it. The AI video market has been rapidly evolving with many, often new companies entering the scene.
