The contract calls for a vehicle that astronauts will use to explore the moon’s south pole and conduct research during the Artemis campaign, which aims to return humans to the lunar surface.

Ram's 😎 Scoop ISRO's humanoid robot Vyommitra, set to fly on the Gaganyaan mission in December 2025, is India's first semi-humanoid space robot designed to assist in human spaceflight. Vyommitra, meaning "friend in space" in Sanskrit, is built to perform vital flight tests, mimic human activities, monitor environmental and life-support systems, and operate spacecraft control panels. It will fly aboard the first uncrewed Gaganyaan mission (Gaganyaan-1) to validate the crew module systems before astronauts, known as vyomanauts, are sent on crewed missions. Ram's 😎 Scoop Vyommitra's design features an upper body with head, torso, and arms but no functional legs. It is equipped with advanced sensors, AI for voice recognition and limited decision-making, and can communicate in Hindi and English. The robot will simulate human functions, give environmental air pressure change warnings, and monitor parameters like temperature, humidity, oxygen, and CO2 levels onboard. Vyommitra is made from heat-resistant aluminum alloy and designed to withstand space conditions including high pressure, vibrations, and microgravity. Ram's 😎 Scoop Its mission is to act as a human simulant and flight analyst to ensure spacecraft safety and performance while reducing risk ahead of human spaceflight. Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman V Narayanan on Thursday disclosed that 90 per cent of the work on Gaganyaan, India's first human spaceflight mission, has been completed. “The Gaganyaan mission is going on very well. A lot of technological development has to take place. Number one the rocket has to be human rated, the life support system, the crew escape system and of course human centric products. I can say today that approximately 90% of the development work has been completed,” Mr. Narayanan told reporters in Bengaluru. He added that the crewed mission to launch the Indian astronauts into space will take place in 2027, and before that, ISRO will undertake three uncrewed missions. The Gaganyaan project contemplates the demonstration of human spaceflight capability by launching a crew of three members to an orbit of 400 km for a three-day mission and bringing them back safely to Earth by landing in the Indian sea waters. On the NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) satellite launched on July 30, 2025, the ISRO Chief said that the satellite is healthy and it would be declared operational in another 10-15 days. ISRO completed the first integrated air drop test for Gaganyaan at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota on August 24. In a simulated rehearsal of the splashdown when the astronauts return to Earth post the mission, a module was lifted off using a helicopter to an altitude of three kilometres and released before deploying nine parachutes for a successful splashdown in the Bay of Bengal, he explained.
