Why workplace charging is the unsung hero of EV charging

25.9p That’s the average price to charge at work in the UK*. In my view, workplace charging is the unsung hero of charging. And for loads of very good reasons. 💷 Cheaper than charging at home at energy price cap (26.35p) 💷 Comparable to overnight home charging tariffs when taking the full cost of install into account 💷 Cheaper than kerbside and public AC charging 😊 A great employee incentive for both new staff and retention 👍 Supports EV adoption and company sustainability goals 🚙 Great for own fleet, visitors and supply chain to charge, and provides a return on investment ⚡️Over 11 million employees drive to work with a typical eight-hour dwell time enabling lower cost scalable charging infrastructure * Data from over 1/2 million paid workplace charging sessions on the Fuuse platform across over 1,000 UK companies. Agree 100%, Michael. Supports transition to EV whether you’ve a driveway or not. Workplace charging is a winner.

This is, indeed, a really important part of the charging ecosystem. Anything that helps the transition is great and when V2G becomes a reality it'll also be a great tool to help balance the grid as demand morphs.

Agreed. Workplace charging is massively important. It’s also massively important that it’s not free. Unless there’s a charge point for everyone (unlikely and unnecessary), then charging to cover costs as a minimum helps to ensure that those who need it can use it, rather than those who just want to use it. I think some employers think that they should provide free charging as some sort of benefit to EV drivers, but it’s also a source of great animosity in some workplaces as it’s not an equitable benefit that all employees, whatever they drive, can enjoy.
