🏭 New Publication on IEEE Xplore (ETFA Conference 2025, Porto)! Our latest paper, co-authored with Axel Busboom, “𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝘄𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗥𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆: 𝗮 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄”, is now available on IEEE Xplore. This work explores how 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝘄𝗶𝗻𝘀 are increasingly becoming the playground for 𝗥𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴, enabling algorithms to safely learn, adapt, and optimize industrial systems; whether within virtual environments or directly connected to physical plants. This integration helps reduce the risks of manipulating complex or sensitive processes while promoting smarter, data-driven operations. Using the PRISMA methodology, we systematically reviewed over 50 studies to map how different industries are combining these technologies (from manufacturing and operations management to automation, control, and robotics) and how this convergence is shaping the next wave of intelligent industrial systems. A paper co-authored by Associate Professor Soh Khim ONG and Emeritus Professor Andrew YC Nee from NUS Mechanical Engineering offers a comprehensive overview of how Digital Twin technologies are transforming modern manufacturing — from how virtual models mirror real-world production systems to Augmented Reality tools that enhance data visualisation and human-centred decision-making. Their paper, "State-of-the-art survey on digital twin implementations", has been recognised with the Annual Best Paper Award 2025 by the Advances in Manufacturing journal, published by Springer Nature.
