French automotive major Renault Group and Chinese automaker GEELY have executed agreements to extend their strategic cooperation, focusing on the production and sales of zero and low-emission vehicles by Renault do Brasil for both the Renault and Geely Auto brands in the country. As part of the agreements, Geely has acquired 26.4 percent stake in Renault do Brasil. Renault Group will remain the majority shareholder and continue to consolidate the entity in its accounts. As a minority shareholder, Geely gains access to the Brazilian industrial and commercial resources, which should accelerate its expansion in the region. With its sights set on South America, Chinese automaker Geely has signed a deal to buy a piece of Renault Group’s Brazilian subsidiary. In exchange for about $80 million in cash, Hong Kong-listed Geely and its parent will end up with a combined 26.4% stake in the French automaker’s local unit. Renault has agreed to sell a 26.4% stake in its Brazilian subsidiary to China’s Geely Group, deepening the companies’ global partnership and accelerating Renault’s electrification strategy in emerging markets. Under the deal, Geely will gain access to Renault’s Ayrton Senna plant in Brazil to produce its own branded vehicles alongside Renault models. Renault will also leverage Geely’s modular platform for electric and hybrid powertrains to expand its lineup of zero- and low-emission vehicles for the region. Renault do Brasil will distribute Geely’s growing EV portfolio—beginning with the EX5 electric SUV—through its existing dealer network. Geely to Buy Stake in Renault’s Brazil Unit to Make and Sell EVs Chinese automaker Geely has signed a deal to buy a stake in Renault Group’s Brazilian subsidiary, an “asset-light” move to produce and sell new-energy vehicles (NEVs) in Latin America’s largest auto market. Under the final agreement signed Nov. 3, Hong Kong-listed Geely Automobile Holdings Ltd. and its parent Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co.
