Here are some interesting stories from the world of retail for Monday, October 13: 💄 Sweet Tooth by Sabrina Carpenter announced it has inked a new retail partnership with Ulta Beauty, that will see the celebrity-backed fragrance collection rollout nationwide via the US beauty chain. 🚢 US containerized imports fell 8.4% year-over-year in September, including a 22.9% drop in goods from China, amid tariff pressures. Ports handled 2.31m TEUs; future monthly volumes are expected to fall below 2m. 👨🏻⚖️ Food dye manufacturers are suing West Virginia in a bid to overturn a state law that bans artificial colors in food and drink. It represents the first major effort from the food industry to fight back against bans. 👕 Shein is ramping up its internal controls following a series of fines related to data privacy breaches, misleading discounts and greenwashing, according to a letter to investors and internal memos. 💰 Major bank lenders are stepping up their financing of US malls this fall, targeting elite shopping centers in Texas and Florida even as the broader retail sector gets hit with tenant bankruptcies and store closings. 👖 True Religion has tapped beauty mogul, style influencer and creator Ari Fletcher to front its Baddie in the City campaign, celebrating the brand’s latest women’s collection. 🚘 Amazon Autos has added three major lenders - Chase, Santander, Wells Fargo - to its auto storefront. Dealers can offer loans from available lenders to customers buying their vehicles on Amazon Autos. 🏬 Nordstrom, which in May closed on its deal to go private, is on track to open 21 new Nordstrom Rack stores this year. It expects to open roughly the same number in 2026. 📦 UPS may begin disposing of imported packages if parcels cannot clear US customs regulations. It will first try returning unprocessed packages to the original shipper at their expense. 🚔 More than 400 individuals have been charged under new laws designed to protect retail workers in Australia from assaults. Since the laws took effect last July, there have been at least 220 convictions. 🍫 Ferrero is preparing to spend more than $100 million on ad campaigns tied to the Super Bowl and World Cup in 2026. The push comes as it seeks to established a more expansive foothold in the US. 🍦 Mixue, the world's largest fast-food chain by store count, has selected Hollywood Boulevard for its next location as it expands to the United States. It is the first step in a national expansion. 🇧🇩 Indonesian retailer Alfamart is making its entry into Bangladesh through a joint venture with Kazi Farms Group and Japan's Mitsubishi Corporation. 🎬 Disney’s Tron: Ares revved up to gross about $33.5 million at the domestic box office, notching the top spot for the weekend. #retail #retailnews #economy #DailyRetailNews

Boxer the discount value retailer of South Africa has opened 25 stores in the first half of the 2025 financial year, with an additional 35 set for the rest of the year. In its financial results for the six months ended, Boxer said it was on track to achieve its target of opening 60 new stores full-yearly. The group added that despite the prevailing low selling price inflation, its ability to achieve like-for-like volume growth has considerably supported the interim result, and bodes well for the full-year.
