🚀 Turning clinical innovation into real system change Clinical innovation works. Every day, clinicians across Danish hospitals prove that good ideas can create measurable value for patients. But as we highlight in yesterday's Dagens Medicin Danmark article, the challenge isn’t the ideas. It’s the system. Without clear national frameworks, strong leadership support, and aligned incentives, even the most promising innovations struggle to scale beyond their local setting. An online Information Day introducing the EP PerMed Research, Innovation and Technology Call for Proposals (RITC) 2026 to the research community will be organised on 28 October 2025. The RITC2026 aims to bring together enterprises with clinical actors, including healthcare providers, patients, and researchers, to test innovative solutions in controlled real-world settings to address clear needs in managing multimorbidity. EP PerMed will fund innovation projects in human health that focus on multimodal data usage for PM approaches providing more efficient and personalised management of multimorbid patients, having at least two chronic diseases that require management. At Fierce Pharma Week, leaders from the healthcare and life sciences industries came together to examine what it takes for pharma, health systems, and health tech to move from parallel efforts to true partnership.  The discussion surfaced both the friction and the promise of collaboration: health systems wary of brand-first approaches, pharma challenged by variability and complexity, and technology gaps that often stall progress.  Against that backdrop, the panel highlighted a coordinated program for high-risk respiratory patients that reached over 16,000 target patients across 11 systems.  ✅ Patients were contacted in the trusted voice of their provider  ✅ Clinicians received timely information at the point of care  ✅ Treatment decisions aligned with evidence-based guidelines  The result was measurable change and proof that when shared goals guide the work, collaboration stops being an experiment and becomes the new standard. EP PerMed organised its first Expert Symposium on #PersonalisedMedicine Implementation on 21 October 2025 in Bilbao (Spain). During this one-day event, high-level experts and invited participants showcased and discussed nine different examples of how European national and regional healthcare systems address the implementation of personalised medicine. They focused on the facilitating factors, as well as the gaps and challenges that can impede its adoption within these systems. The discussions revealed that, while national strategies and EU-level policies play a central role, regions are pivotal in delivering care, testing innovations, and deploying infrastructure. EP PerMed will analyse the symposium’s outcomes to further explore these topics and identify the key factors that can contribute to the integration of personalised medicine into adoption strategies, ensuring scalability, equity and sustainability. It also became evident that combining multilevel governance, coordination among regions and nations, patient partnership, and regulatory coherence would increase the successful implementation of personalised medicine for the benefit of European citizens on an equitable basis. The event was organised by the EP PerMed partners Instituto Aragonés de Ciencias de la Salud (IACS) together with BIOEF and the Health Department of the Basque Regional Government Eusko Jaurlaritza - Gobierno Vasco as hosting institutions.

Today I had the opportunity to attend the Zdravje 2025 (Health 2025) conference with my colleagues from Novartis in Slovenia. Under the theme “New Generation Healthcare System,” the event, organized by Delov poslovni center (DPC), brought together key stakeholders, including healthcare providers, payers, policymakers, research institutions, and, most importantly, patients. The discussions were timely, candid, and constructive. I'm sharing just a few takeaways that resonated with me the most: 📢 Elevate prevention with a strategic, long-term approach. An aging population brings a rising burden of chronic disease with many cases being preventable. The conversation should extend beyond just longevity to quality of life as people live longer. 💡 Improve efficiency alongside funding. While the healthcare system can always use more resources, Slovenia’s spending is around the European average. The priority therefor should be to drive higher efficiency and outcomes with the funds already allocated. 👍 Treat health as an investment, not a cost. We need to recognize the broader societal and economic impact of health and healthcare and anchor decisions in a long-term strategy. A healthier society is a more productive society. As part of the pharmaceutical industry, we are committed to being an active partner in this transformation – advancing science and bringing breakthrough medicines to patients to address many of still unmet treatment needs, ensuring responsible and timely access to innovation, and supporting system readiness and efficiency. What inspired me was the shared commitment to cross-sector collaboration – working together to move from pilots and fragmented solutions to scalable, measurable change. Connecting with more than 160 healthcare leaders from 40 countries at our Executive Summit was a powerful reminder of the global reach and shared purpose that drive us. It was energizing to see widespread international attendance that embodies the “everyone, everywhere” spirit at the heart of our purpose at Siemens Healthineers. Just as encouraging were the wide range of subjects covered and the strong value orientation across the audience, who showed a clear commitment to delivering care to those who need it most. Among the many discussions that resonated with me: · The team from Alberta, Canada who are driving transformative progress to improve cancer care delivery in their region. They’re doing so by combining global knowledge hubs, AI-enabled workflows, collaborative frameworks, and not to mention, much “humbleness and swagger.” · Katie Kaney’s dynamic perspective on measuring a person’s health by looking at not only the clinical drivers, but also behavioral, genetic, and social factors. This very much aligns with our commitment to address all aspects of health. Thank you to all the participants, panelists, and organizers who made this year’s Executive Summit a success. Soon, electronic health records and cancer registry data will further enrich this resource.   🩺 This initiative will help us better understand unmet medical needs, inspire new therapies, and improve outcomes for patients.   🤝 At MSD Deutschland, we believe that collaboration and data-driven insights are key to solving healthcare’s biggest challenges.
