The skies showed no promise, and the forecast was equally macabre. Brussels, a warm and welcoming city with a vibrant running community, was the first stop on the norda European leg of 005 World Tour — but it didn’t seem as if Mother Nature would be willing to cooperate. But, just like the Handshake Running team so aptly noted the day before the event, norda is Canadian and a little inclement weather isn’t going to stop us. Nor was it going to stop the 60+ runners from Brussels that came to Handshake Running to demo the 005, get their hands on an event-only norda x Handshake Running T-shirt and eat burgers from local favorite PitStop, cooked and served from the trunk of a vintage Defender. Antoine and Hans Tollet , co-founders of Handshake Running, have been norda family since the earliest days of the company, and stockists since they threw open the doors to their store in 2024. They’ve created a community fueled by passion, purpose and kinship, which was on full display as the demo group, headlamps lit, headed cheerfully into the rain for a winding 9K run that took us through Brussels’ parks and up the steepest hill in the city. The only thing higher than our heart rates after a full send on the hill climb were the vibes, with laughter and chatter lasting throughout the run and back at the shop afterwards. Despite the downpour, attendees, gleefully lingered, swapping stories, talking shoes and eating burgers. We ran fast at points, but nothing about the night was hurried.
