This week in London, the LME unveiled a plan that could redefine how metals are valued. It introduces sustainability premiums for aluminum, copper, nickel and zinc, rewarding producers that meet verified ESG and carbon intensity standards. For the first time, the market is beginning to price sustainability itself. A new Dubai based subsidiary will manage the data and methodology, using real transactions from the Metalshub platform and independent verification of sustainability metrics. It is a pragmatic and transparent approach that acknowledges how credibility must underpin any transformation of this scale. For years, the industry has debated how to link environmental performance with financial value. This initiative may finally connect the two. If executed well, sustainability premiums could reward cleaner production, guide investment toward low carbon supply, and give end users a measurable foundation for responsible sourcing. It is not about green metals, but about how the market begins to price the future. At Falconbridge, we are aligned with this evolution and continue to improve as we prepare for production to restart when market conditions permit. Our focus has been to prepare the company to meets the standards of the new metals economy, one defined by responsibility, traceability and efficiency. The path ahead is as much about how we produce as what we produce. The LME consultation remains open until November 28. It is an opportunity for all of us in the value chain to help shape how responsibility, transparency and performance are reflected in price.

📣Last week, EFAMA’s Ilia Bekou participated in EFRAG’s hybrid outreach event on the revision of the ESRS. In the session that focused on cross-cutting standards, she joined Helena Watson, Aleksandra Palinska, and Kevin Rosser, outlining the most crucial aspects of the proposed draft exposure and the priorities of the asset management sector, which represents both users and preparers of corporate reporting. Key takeaways from the discussion: ➡️EFRAG’s proposed revised ESRS is in the right direction to strike a balance between reducing the reporting burden and maintaining data availability of sustainability-related information. ➡️Efforts to improve interoperability with international standards are welcome to facilitate reporting, readability, and comparability of information, especially for large companies with global activity. ➡️Further clarifications are needed in key amendments put forward, including quantitative reporting of the anticipated financial effect, the fair presentation, and the gross vs. net approach. ➡️In the absence of an explicit clarification in the draft exposure of the exclusion of assets under management (AuMs) from the reporting obligations in the CSRD, it is crucial that the issue is addressed by the European Commission in the Level 1 negotiations. 🙏 Many thanks to EFRAG for hosting this insightful event. EFAMA remains committed to engaging constructively to support a balanced revision that serves all stakeholders. #AssetManagement #ESRS #SustainableFinance
