To address this, TTRI’s team developed an integrated smart control solution that combines the extrusion unit, gear pump, cooling rollers, and online inspection module. 𝗜𝗧𝗠𝗔 𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗮 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 — 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 ITMA ASIA + CITME 2025 in Singapore felt like the moment textile manufacturing finally caught up with its own promises. The sustainability slogans that once filled halls were replaced by data screens, dashboards, and process logs. “𝗘𝗰𝗼” 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗴𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹. In dyeing, ACME’s Intelligent Conveyor Drive system ran at a 𝗹𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼 𝗼𝗳 𝟭:𝟭.𝟱 while recording temperature, flow, and pH in real time. KUANS’ in-bath spectral sensor tracked dye exhaustion continuously instead of relying on operator judgment. Copower’s RFID dosing and Logic Art’s ERP-linked PFAS-free auxiliaries turned chemical traceability into part of daily operations rather than a paperwork exercise. Finishing moved the same way. Servo-controlled dryers from Asia Kingdom predicted heat demand and reported actual kWh per kilogram. Fong’s modular ranges recovered steam condensate and automatically logged the energy used for each batch. In this new landscape, “𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴” 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗮 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗺 — 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁. Testing and colour management followed suit. SDL Atlas, Roaches, Datacolor, and X-Rite now capture every test condition - temperature, humidity, colour coordinates, motion - 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗯𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲. The message across the halls was consistent: automation, sensing, and AI are merging process control and compliance into 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺. For testing labs, calibration integrity will matter as much as chemistry. For chemical suppliers, being compatible with sensor-based systems will define credibility. ITMA 2025 marked the point where sustainability stopped being something the industry described and became something it could 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲. The winners won’t be the ones with the greenest slogans, but the ones whose machines can 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀.

To anyone in my network looking for practical ideas and proven solutions to maximise supply chain output while saving significant resources, energy, and money, I strongly recommend exploring Paul Cowell’s recent series of posts. It is one of the most grounded and data-driven perspectives I have seen in a long time. To anyone still saying that conventional systems are not good enough or that we need disruption, this is your wake-up call. A 1:1.5 liquor ratio running on real-time control is not incremental, it is revolutionary precision applied to legacy excellence. There is no need for fancy pilot projects with unreliable, slogan-driven disruptive innovation that lacks data. If you want to spend a few million dollars to become sustainable, look to your supply chain. The technology is already here, waiting for those bold enough to measure.

Looking for primary data for textile sustainability reporting, product environmental footprints or digital product passports? That's how it is created! Now we have to ensure that this data can effectively and seamlessly flow through the supply chain, because just having it sit in the local memory of the machine or the ERP system of the textile mill is of little use. The sustainability and efficiency improvement potential of continuous real-time data reporting and analysis, rather than relying on averages or snap-shot audits is immense. But it requires investment in data management infrastructure & capabilities throughout the supply chain, and a massive mindset shift. The technical challenge lies in maintaining balance: ensuring that a “greener” adhesive performs just as well as a conventional one. Changes in the type of polymer or the backing can affect adhesion strength, thermal resistance, or durability. There are cases where sustainability goals are met without sacrificing performance. tesa 4965 Original Next Gen is one example: it delivers the same performance as the classic 4965, but with 40% less CO₂ and a PET backing with 90% post-consumer recycled content (source: tesa.com). Process & Converting Equipment - A Market in Transition? Germany’s process and converting machinery sector continues to navigate a challenging but evolving landscape. According to the VDMA, production is projected to decline by around 5% overall by the end of 2025, BUT experience a rebound in 2026. However, it’s not all bad. The food processing and packaging machinery segment has seen strong momentum, with orders up 11% year-on-year in August. Demand is being fuelled by consumer goods, pharmaceuticals, and sustainable packaging innovation. Innovation continues to drive progress, especially in areas such as automation, energy efficiency, and modular machinery. Manufacturers are prioritising retrofitting and modernisation projects to extend the life of existing lines and improve sustainability performance. While the overall market remains under pressure, the long-term direction is clear: smarter systems, more circular solutions, and closer integration of digital technologies will shape the next generation of process and converting machinery across Germany and the wider DACH region.
