Wholesale Price Spikes: Lack of readiness for 2021-2022 global energy crisis leading to significant financial strain for U.K. customers and suppliers that regulators were late to the party on. Supplier Insolvencies: During the crisis, many energy suppliers went out of business because they couldn't pass the soaring wholesale costs onto customers on fixed tariffs, exposing the regulatory failures and a fragile market structure.
