As part of this year’s Cyber Security Awareness Month, our founder Lynne Capie partnered with chartered cyber security professional Dougie Grant, member of the NCSC Advisory Group, to contribute to Cyber Matters - a special multimedia series bringing together leading voices from across the Channel Islands. The series explores the risks, realities and opportunities that are shaping how we live and work in today’s rapidly evolving online world. Lynne and Dougie’s article focuses on why organisations can no longer afford to think of cyber attacks as a distant possibility, and how effective cyber event planning, that enables businesses to respond rather than react, can make the real difference between surviving a crisis or not. Read their feature here, alongside articles from Cyber Matters contributors Jonathan Benton (iSanctuary), Matt Palmer (Jersey Cyber Security Centre), and experts from BDO Jersey and C5 Alliance. https://lnkd.in/eXuWf3qW

Cambridge Management Consulting is pleased to announce that it has been accredited by the UK's National Cyber Security Centre (a part of the Government Communications Headquarters) as an Assured Services Provider to provide advisory services related to Cyber Essentials. These services are specifically designed for small- and medium-sized enterprises which are exposed to largely the same cyber threats as their larger counterparts and are often more vulnerable to them. The Cyber Essentials Standard offers pragmatic steps to improve security for such businesses, which can be achieved without causing major disruption to operations. Tom Burton FCIIS, Senior Partner at Cambridge Management Consulting for Cyber Security, who led this recognition and is himself certified to provide Cyber Advisor services, said, "Supporting the SME end of the market is something very close to my heart. Not being a household name is not an effective defence in a world where the attackers use technology to scour the internet for organisations with vulnerabilities, no matter how small." Cyber News Mondays – October 13th Edition October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and it’s a reminder that cybersecurity isn’t just for big tech companies. It affects local businesses, medical clinics, churches, non-profits, and every online customer in the community marketplace. Headline of the Week: City of Independence, Missouri, Hit by Cyber Attack on October 7th A network breach disrupted online services and internal systems. Some public services were taken offline while officials investigated the impact. Why It Matters: If a local government can be taken down, so can any small or mid-sized organization. A single attack can halt operations, damage trust, and expose sensitive data. Top 5 Cybersecurity Awareness Tips for IT Teams: Run a quick password audit and enforce MFA Update all devices weekly Conduct phishing simulations and refresh training Keep offline or segmented backups Limit access so employees only see what they need Bottom Line: Cyber threats are constant, but good habits go a long way. Awareness turns into protection when we apply it daily. See you next week for another edition of #CyberNewsMondays, where we simplify the headlines that matter. The Government’s latest advice on cyber resilience is clear: “Go back to pen and paper.” According to the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), organisations should now keep physical copies of their critical recovery and continuity plans, a reminder that even the most advanced digital systems can (and do) fail. This isn’t about abandoning technology; it’s about recognising that resilience means being able to operate when the digital world goes dark. The NCSC’s warning follows a rise in nationally significant cyber incidents, with attacks on major UK organisations such as Marks & Spencer, The Co-op, and Jaguar Land Rover disrupting operations and supply chains. At CiContinuity, we’ve seen the same lesson play out repeatedly: - Cybersecurity keeps attackers out. - Continuity planning keeps your organisation running when they get in. - Offline, air-gapped, and well-rehearsed recovery processes are your lifeline. Because when ransomware locks your systems, or a critical platform goes offline, you can’t download your recovery plan from the cloud. It’s time to think beyond prevention and start preparing for recovery. #BusinessContinuity #OperationalResilience #CyberResilience #NCSC #DisasterRecovery #CiContinuity
